Safe surfing: These tips are indispensable - 1. Browser updates

In general, browser updates are now no longer as cool as before. New features that improve everyday life noticeably are rare. But with pretty much every browser update, there are bug fixes and some security holes are closed. Therefore, always update your browser immediately when it becomes available. This is the best protection against dangerous websites that infect visitors’ PCs with malware.

1. Browser updates

- Microsoft Internet Explorer and Edge are automatically updated via Microsoft Update.

- Chrome is self-sufficient. Click the menu button with the three dots to the right of the address field, then click Help and Google Chrome to check their status and start a search for updates manually

- Firefox brings an auto-update function. Tap the Alt key, and then click About Firefox in the Help menu. There you can see the currently installed version and at the same time start the online update by hand

Comparison of online TV recorders: OTR vs. Save.TV & Co.

Streaming services such as Netflix, Maxdome, or Amazon Prime are bustling with offers, to look at when you want and what you want. But streaming means seeing and not possessing. If you want to build a nice video library, you can access online TV recorders.

Image quality: NQ or HQ

Online TV recorders record as much as a conventional VCR and access the public TV stations. Compared to the VCR in the living room they have the advantage that you can see American programs abroad and record in the cloud. As with the VCR at home, the recordings are legal private copies that you can archive and store on your own hard drive.

Burn streams and copies

The operation of an online video recorder is very simple. Log in, view the TV program in the electronic TV journal (EPG), select favorite films and series and program the recording with one click. Especially Save.TV and Bong.TV have a simple and clear interface, so the programming becomes a children's game. Attention: Often the recordings are about a quarter of an hour longer, as the recording starts a few minutes before the start and continues to record after the filming. This is to ensure that there is not a single piece missing in the program, because of program shifts at the sender.

Conclusion: provider in detail

After the recording, an e-mail flings into the mailbox, which announces the end of the recording and provides a link, which allows the program to be loaded onto the computer. Or you can log into your online account and call the programs there. Practically: Partially, the vendors cut out the advertising right away - to the misgivings of the private.

The recorded broadcasts are stored in a cloud memory as NQ, SQ or HQ format depending on the provider. The films are stored in different resolutions so as to stand up for different bandwidths. NQ is the smallest image format with 320 x 240 pixels at 450 kbit. Television is not much fun. SQ (Standard Quality) requires 550 kbit / s of bandwidth, HQ (High Quality) with a resolution of 720 x 480 pixels or 720 x 576 pixels needs 1,500 kbit / s of bandwidth.

ARD, ZDF, ZDFneo, 3sat, arte, ServusTV are now even sending in HD quality at 3,000 kbit / s. This corresponds to an HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The paid HD versions of RTL & Co. or Sky's high-definition pay TV can not be found in the channel lists of on-line TV recorders.

Playing the movies is also easy. If the user wants to watch his favorite messages, he can stream them to his tablet, his PC, his smartphone or his TV. Save.TV, Bong.TV and Online TV Recorder OTR also offer an app for Android and for iPhone or iPad to view broadcasts on the road. OTR also offers a Windows Phone App, SaveTV and Shift.TV also run on the Amazon Kindle Fire.

If you do not want to stream, the recorded movies and series can also burn to a DVD and play with a hard disk recorder, a flat-screen TV, a Blu-ray player or a DVD player. It is also possible to store the footage on a USB stick.

If you are looking for a great program selection and top lists or likes to see foreign channels, online TV Recorder is in good hands. For this, however, you have to accept a confusing website. The payment model confuses, however, has the advantage that you can retrieve records at a quite reasonable price. The service offers the only one a limited, free variant.

Lesetipp: compare online video casinos

The websites of Save.TV and Bong.TV are both very well structured and clearly structured. Save.TV offers more channels and a higher resolution for movies. Bong.TV has an audio track on offer and is cheaper. Mobile costs here but extra. Also with Shift.TV one finds oneself well, but has the smallest selection of stations. And movies in HD resolution are missing so far.

Fujifilm X-T1: Presentation on January 28?

Note: Fujifilm has now officially introduced the X-T1.

Fujifilm X-T1: Weatherproof X-System Camera on the way? (From 14 January 2017)

Under fujifilm-x.com you can see the image of a camera in the classic SLR design with the typical three-wheelers on the top of the camera and the central housing bulge for the viewfinder. However, official details of Fujifilm are not yet available.

The often well-informed rumor page Mirrorlesrumors.com expects, among other things, the name X-T1, a particularly large, high-resolution electronic viewfinder, a new 16-megapixel X-Trans sensor of the second generation, 8 B / s with AF tracking, support Of UHS-SD-II cards and a weatherproof housing.

An announcement from Fujifilm Middle East on Facebook suggests that something new is coming soon. "The journey begins on XX" is said to be in the teaser that Fujirumors has discovered. The speculators are expecting a new weather-proof system called X-T1 for the 28th January.

The X-E and X-Pro model, priced at X-E, is expected to have a new APS-C X-Trans sensor II, a larger and improved electronic viewfinder, and a dual SD card drive. Also from a faster AF as with the X-E2 and a battery grip as a supplement is the speech, as well as a retro design in the style of earlier Fujica -ST models. This is a picture of a Japanese blog showing the Japanese Fujifilm-X photographer Rei Ohara with an unknown camera, which could be a new Fujifilm-X.

Netgear NightHawk X4 (R7500) in the test

The Nighthawk X4 from Netgear is one of the first AC WLAN routers that can transmit simultaneously in the 5 GHz band with four spatially separated MIMO antennas. Current 802.11ac devices can currently broadcast at up to 433 Mbps on an antenna. The fastest AC / WLAN routers with their three MIMO antennas reached a maximum of 1300 Mbit / s (gross). If the fourth antenna is added, the Nighthawk X4 should be transmitted with a gross data rate of up to 1733 Mbps.

Netgear NightHawk X4 vs. NightHawk 7000

To check this value, we ordered a second Netgear-NightHawk-X4 router and configured as a WLAN bridge. There are currently no AC WLAN clients with four MIMO antennas. Unfortunately, we were disappointed: despite the current firmware, we have not managed to produce a gross or link rate of 1,733 Mbps between both devices. The X4 router, configured as a bridge, showed a maximum link rate of 1300 Mbit / s even over a free, relatively short connection distance of just under 3 meters.

Netgear NightHawk X4: Fast interfaces

Our maximum 5 GHz net throughput rates of up to 760 Mbit / s, which were determined using the jperf tool, corresponded to those of a good three-antenna router. Too bad, because actually we had expected with Nettoraten near the 900 Mbit / s. Even under more unfavorable conditions, where an AC867 client from the neighboring building to the X4 router sparked, the net rate was not that of a 3-antenna router.

Netgear NightHawk X4: Conclusion

The NighHawk 7000, the direct predecessor of the Netgear NightHawk X4, even achieved a higher transmission rate over the same route with its three MIMO antennas. At 2.4 GHz, the X4 transmits and receives, despite its four antennas, only over a maximum of three streams, as does most AC1900 routers. Correspondingly, the transfer rates measured at 2.4 GHz were also in the same range.

Very nice: The Netgear NightHawk X4 also supports the higher frequency ranges of the 5 GHz band with DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection). Many manufacturers are saving the certification and can therefore only use the lowest quarter of the 5 GHz band. The power consumption of the router is around 8.5 watts in operation, the WLAN bands can be switched on and off independently of each other via a scheduler.

The X4 has two USB 3.0 and one eSATA port for connecting external memory or a printer. Mediadata on the memory can be played on the integrated media server in the home network. The access to the memory from the LAN is extremely fast: We were able to access external hard disks on the USB 3.0 ports with up to 93 MByte / s and write with up to 65 MByte / s write access. At the eSATA interface, we even found transfer rates of 109 MByte / s (read) and 75 MByte / s (write).

The streaming of full-HD movies via the X4 integrated media server worked smoothly. In the Netgear Genie app you can even set up which Player app the videos should be played. For parents, the router offers a real content filter at no extra charge. The setting of the filter does not go through the router menu, but via the Genie app on the mobile phone.

The Netgear NightHawk X4 offers best functionality and fast storage. However, the wireless performance is hardly higher than the previous model, which costs about 50 Euro less for similar functionality.

Kodi (formerly XBMC) comes for Android TV

On Google I / O 2017, Android TV was introduced, a versatile entertainment platform based on Google’s Android operating system. A variation of set-top boxes and TV sets with preinstalled AndroidTV from partner companies such as Sony and Sharp is to be available in the premium segment from 2017.

Developers already have access to a number of test models to help launch Android TV solutions. The free Mediacenter Kodi, formerly known as XBMC, will soon be available after Android TV's official release.

Download tip: Kodi (formerly XBMC) for Windows

Android TV, due to the operating system, will probably bring a whole series of smart product solutions to the forefront. You can certainly count on the Mediacenter Kodi, which can be used to stream videos, music, pictures and other media files on the TV.

The cyanogen-mod developer Keyan Mobli has already made some necessary changes to the Kodi source code. With success, on its Google+ page, the developer reports: "It works ... pretty flawless."

The Mediacenter interface and Full HD video playback do not seem to pose any problems.

“4 Divas”: The second workshop week took place near Almeria. In Retamar / El Toyo the workshop group moved into a beautiful 4 * hotel of the Barcelo group, directly on the beach, with extremely spacious and chic rooms. Here, the four models were photographed by the workshop manager Jens Brüggemann just before their use at the pool. From left to right: Marny, Reda, Galina and Patricia.

Part 3: Laser printer: Thousand thanks

Prominent: Epson installed the Minolta-QMS engine in its Aculaser. This explains the coincidences in the figures and finally also in the price. The fact that the drivers look similar to each other, needs no surprise. But for the money you get a more than just fair performance, because the Epson works all documents without murmuring and without fail. This applies both to pure text printing, where he prints the Dr. Grauert letter in just 20 seconds (10 pieces in just 50 seconds), as well as for presentations, which he processes in about 30 seconds (2:45 min Ten-page mixed document). This applies without restriction to the quality – not the printing time.

Although this is still towering high above the values of comparable inkjet printers, but for a laser printer it is lush. Both the photoprint and our Corel test document revealed clean, if somewhat dull, colors and the fact that the Epson mixes gray from the basic colors instead of using black toner. Like the Brother of Minolta-QMS, the paper feed is just a hole on the printer side. Probably a result of the strong price pressure

SSD Test 2017: These are the best SSD bargains of the year

SSD-Test 2017: The prices of fast memories have fallen dramatically in recent years. 500 GB SSDs are already available at 120 Euro. But what about the quality and performance of the cheap giants? We hunted the bargains through our lab test course.

Good cells, bad cells

In the year 2010 a commercially available SSD with an "affordable" capacity still costs a good 3 euros per Gibibyte. Today we arrived at a price of 30 cents. Within a few years, the cost of this advanced storage technology has shrunk to one-tenth. This is a real bang for the IT industry, even for the IT industry. The production of memory chips has naturally grown and has become a mass product - that helps to reduce costs.

And technological advances in production have also contributed to reducing the manufacturing process to ever smaller sizes - 15 nanometers are now the standard for flash drives. What is most desirable with CPU production - smaller structures mean less heat generation, more space for transistors and thus more power - is not necessarily exclusively associated with advantages with flash memory. A CPU does not need to store data. But an SSD already - and that is the cracking point. Memory cell is not equal to memory cell.

If the market determines the price of a product, then it is only with a great marketing effort, it is possible to enforce this "price dictate". American noble carriages would be the parade example here. In the case of hard disk storage, which migrates into a PC or the laptop, the customer obviously does not care about marketing or image gossip. In other words, if the performance is right, that SSD is bought, which is cheaper. Done. But this inevitably leads to the fact that in all SSDs the cheapest technology migrates. And these are the so-called triple-level cell memories (TLC cells) in flash memories. Samsung's 3D-V-Nand and Intel / Microns X Point are out-of-the-box.

When it comes to the quality of the built-in memory cells, one differentiates generally four types. SLC stands for single level cells, these are the most expensive but also the highest quality memory cells, since only two charge levels are generated in them, which allows the highest number of read / write operations. This is followed by eMLC and MLC, which stands for (enhanced) Multilevel Cell. Four or more voltage levels are generated per cell. The error and failure rates are higher and the access times are slower than with SLC. TLC memory cells are provided with eight voltage levels and can thus store three bits per NAND cell.

This is advantageous for the capacity of the data carrier. However, the service life as well as the failure rate fall to the lowest level of all. Of course, TLC memory cells are installed in all favorable SSD flash memories, with the exception of some 3D NAND variants. However, these low-cost SSD types also deliver high performance when compared to traditional mechanical hard drives - with the exception of a specific case, but later on.

Guide: CSS3 and PHP

We have compiled a new guide to CSS3 and PHP for you. On the one hand, we show you how to use CSS3 to implement cross-platform reflections. On the other hand, we’ll show you how to fill a newly discovered PHP security gap.

CSS3 and PHP - cross-platform reflections

When it comes to implementing reflections and similar effects without the use of images, many web designers prefer the easiest way, and this is by using proprietary features such as -webkit-box-reflect: and -webkit-mask-image: for webkit browsers . But this concept has the clear disadvantage that it enforces the use of Google Chrome or Apple Safari, leaving browsers with a different rendering engine out. Completely unnecessary, because it is also different. If you want to support Altbrowser from the IE family, you can distinguish it from the use of conditional comments from modern browsers.

Guide: CSS3 and PHP - New security holes in PHP stuff

To simulate mirroring effects with respect to a text in CSS3, two identical text sections are required each

The Internet Magazine span> span> div> div> div>

The corresponding stylization rules (for example, stylesheet style.css) might look like this:

#flaeche {padding-top: 5%; left: 0; top: 10%; width: 100%; bottom: 0; position: absolute; overflow: hidden

The element still has no background, because this is to include the mirroring. The overflow property is used to keep the upper area in black color, thus enhancing the reflection. With the following source text, both a reflecting element and the reflection itself are generated

# View, #refact, 'Arial Black', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 50px; background-color: #FFE; -weight: bold; padding: 30px; display: inline block; border radius: 30px; box-shadow: rgba (255,255,240, .2) 0 0 200px 100px, rgba (255,255,240, .3) 0 0 40px, inset rgba (0,0,0, .8) 0 0 20px; border-radius: 10px; position: relative; -webkit-user-select: none; -moz-user-select: none; ; User-select: none

In this way, two superimposed large buttons have been created. The second button is now to be mirrored along the vertical axis (that is, across the horizontal axis)

#reflection {position: absolute; z-index: -1; top: 100%; left: 0; -webkit-transform: scaleY (-1); ScaleY (-1); ms-transform: scaleY (-1); transform: scaleY (-1); - webkit filter: blur (2px); / * webkit only * / / * filter: url (filter.svg #blur); * / / * Firefox, Opera and IE10 * / -webkit-box-shadow: inset rgba (0,0,0, .8) 0 0 20px, inset # 000 0 50px 100px; -moz-box- Shadow: inset rgba (0,0,0, .8) 0 0 20px, inset # 000 0 50px 100px; box shadow: inset rgba (0,0,0, .8) 0 0 20px, inset # 000 0 50px 100px

A softening filter is used as an icing. Unfortunately, the blur filter of Webkit is not crossbrowserfähig and so it is, to the implementation of a blur deeper into the trick box to grasp. The easiest way to implement the blur effect in Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer 10 is to use a softening filter mask (in the example filter.svg), as follows:

Xml version = "1.0" standalone = "no"?> filter> svg>

In the rule set for selector mirroring, you can now remove the comment signs from the filter rule for Firefox, Opera and IE 10

Filter: url (filter.svg # blur); / * Firefox, Opera and IE10 * /

The next step is to make the reflection seem more believable by the use of transparency and to solve the problem of browser compatibility. For example, the following code
performs these two tasks

Modern = mirroring margin-top: 20px; margin-left: -10px; -ms-filter: "progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage (opacity = .25) progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft .Blur (PixelRadius = '3', MakeShadow = 'false') progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.MotionBlur (strength = 15, direction = 0) progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Blur (PixelRadius = ): Altloads #spiegelung {margin-top: -20px; margin-left: -7px; filter: progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient (startColorstr = # 99000000, endColorstr = # 00000000) progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage Mirror = 1, rotation = 2, opacity = .35) progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Blur (PixelRadius = '3', MakeShadow = 'false') progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.MotionBlur (strength = 15, direction = 0) progid : DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Blur (PixelRadius = '3', MakeShadow = 'false')

A vulnerability of the PHP interpreter, which has existed for eight years, could jeopardize the security of your web server. By appending the -s string to a valid URL, an attacker can spy on the code of the scripts used in older versions of the PHP interpreter. To determine if your site might be affected by an attack of this type, visit the URL of the site in question in a browser and attach the string to it, for example

If the browser renders the page undisturbed when you call such a modified URL, you are immune to this attack. However, if you get an insight into the source code when calling such a modified URL, the affected site is vulnerable. In this case, you should get the PHP interpreter up-to-date to protect the server from attack.

Synchronize Google services: 9 Tips for Mail, Calendar & Co.

If you have a new Android phone and want to transfer the data from the old iPhone to the new device, or simply transfer your important contacts and calendar entries from the notebook to your mobile device, Google services help with the right tricks and tools

Tip 1: Send and synchronize mail

This means that mails can be matched easily with Google and its operating system Android, regardless of programs and platforms that you use on notebooks or home PCs. It is more difficult with calendars and contacts. So that they are always up-to-date on several devices, additional tools such as MyPhone Explorer have to jump in.

Tip 2: Read Google Mail anywhere

These tools are especially essential if you are not just transmitting data, but if you want to synchronize them on all devices. Even if you want to transfer apps or messages that are also from an old mobile phone.

Tip 3: Connect Google Calendar with Outlook

Whoever already handles his e-mails via a Google-address is already on the safe side in the process of cyberizing his electronic mail anyway. The e-mail runs over the servers of Google and can be received independently of the operating system on all possible devices with the most different programs. It does not matter if you use Outlook or Thunderbird, the mails are always kept in sync.

Tip 4: Join Google Calendar with Thunderbird

As a newcomer to Android, it becomes somewhat more complicated, because you probably already use an e-mail address of another provider, such as GMX or Telekom. If you want to receive these mails on your Android device, there are several ways to do this. In the simplest variant, create a new account from your Android device using the Account settings via Add Account.

Depending on which mail provider you are using, you can also process your correspondence via an app. This is the case, for example, with GMX, Web.de or Yahoo. It is also possible to keep the mails on the PC at home, provided that copies of the mail remain on the server. With these two methods, you have two mail apps on the device. You can work around this problem by redirecting your mails to your Google account.

This redirection is set up in your Google account settings via your browser: In the Google Mail window, click on Settings and in the next window click on Accounts and Import. If you receive error messages, your mail provider will not be able to retrieve the mails, or only after changing this option in your provider's mail settings.

If you have set up your Google mailaccount via the browser, you can now access and manage your e-mails on all devices. It does not matter if you read your e-mail via Outlook or Thunderbird on your notebook or on the go via tablet or smartphone.

When setting up the mail account in Outlook or Thunderbird, you only have to make sure that you select the option to retrieve the mail via IMAP and thus ensure that your mails are saved on the server. So, when setting up the mail, make sure that the following servers and ports are set:

Keeping the calendar up to date on several devices also works quite smoothly with Google's calendar. It is, however, more complicated if existing calendars are to be synchronized. You can make the settings via your Google account in your web browser. To do so, please sign in with your Google name and password. Switch to your calendar using the Apps button.

On the left side of the navigation bar, select My Calendar and click the down arrow of the calendar you want to synchronize with Outlook. From the context menu, select Calendar Settings. Verify that the selected calendar is shared using the Share this calendar tab. On the Calendar Details tab, click the ICAL.
button in the Calendar Address area

Use the key combination CTRL + C to copy the Internet address displayed there. Then, change to Outlook 2013 and choose Information from the File menu. Click Account Settings and select Account Settings from the drop-down menu. In the next window, go to the Internet Calendar tab and click New.

Paste the copied address in the next window, and then click Add. Then, in the Folder Name field, rename the calendar and close the window with OK. Also, make sure your Google Calendar sharing includes writing privileges.

Experienced Thunderbird users know the problem with Mozilla's mail program: a calendar function is only available with an extension like Lightning. Install it through the add-on manager. Once the calendar is enabled in Thunderbird, it can be linked to Google's administrator.

To do this, copy the address (ICAL) of your Google Calendar as described in Tip 3. Then, change to Thunderbird's Calendar, and then right-click the context menu in the navigation bar on the left. Select New Calendar

Tip 5: Transfer contacts to Google

In the next step, enable the option On the network as the location. Then select the calendar format iCalender (ICS) and insert your Google calendar address. Finally, create a name in the next window. You can set the calendar to be synchronized by using the contextual menu of the calendar.

Contacts can be easily transferred to Google from mail programs such as Outlook 2013. The simplest way to do this is through the export function of Outlook. However, the contacts are only transferred and not synchronized. You will find the export in the File menu. In the Export Wizard, select the format separated by delimiter.

In the browser, go to your Google contacts, and then click the Import Contacts entry on the left, and then locate the exported file. Click on Import to start the address import. Then create the command Find / Duplicate. The export of address books works in a similar way also with other mail programs. You must make sure that a .csv file is created with a comma as separator.

Tip 6: Synchronize Outlook contacts with GO Contact Sync Mod

Tip 7: Synchronize everything with MyPhoneExplorer

Tip 8: iOS and Google Services

Tip 9: Include Outlook calendar in Google

Outlook contacts can also be synchronized easily with the free GO Contact Sync Mod tool. Enter your user name and password during installation. Make sure the Sync Contacts check box is selected. In addition, activate Sync Notes. This is how GO Contact Sync Mod corrects notes. Also, check the Run program at startup and Auto sync checkboxes at

Finally, set the synchronization interval in minutes to meet your requirements. Click on Sync to end the setup. If you have a business account with Google, you can synchronize addresses and appointments with the Google Apps Sync tool for Outlook. With a test version everyone can try the synchronization.

The free tool MyPhoneExplorer not only allows you to synchronize calendars and contacts, but also call lists, notes or short messages. However, the synchronization with newer Android devices is problematic. If you connect your smartphone or tablet to the PC via a USB cable, you need to activate USB debugging or the charging function on your mobile device.

For current devices, this is only possible by connecting the developer options. The installation of the app on the mobile device provides a way out. Afterwards, the connection to the desktop application can take place over WLAN. You should also set a code to secure the WLAN connection as requested. Start MyPhoneExplorer on your PC, and then click File / Connect. When the connection is established, the data is synchronized.

On the PC, you can access the various functions, ie SMS or files, via the navigation bar of the PhoneExplorer. If you want to back up the contents of your mobile device, select Extras / Create backup. Specify the folder where you want to back up the data, and then click Save.

When syncing with tools like MyPhoneExplorer, the data is updated at the time of the connection and synchronized on the mobile device and the PC. If you change an entry, for example in the calendar, this change must be transferred to the smartphone or tablet via the Synchronize button.

Thanks to cloud services and the appropriate app, data can be transferred to the PC without any problems from vomiPhone and can then be transferred to the Google empire.

If you want to integrate your Outlook calendar into Google, you can do this with an export feature.

Colorfoto.de Wide angle lenses

Objective lenses with large image angles are visually complex. Above all, the very strongly refracted edge beams that occur with these models require a high correction effort. At the same time, small-picture lenses are characterized by an unnecessarily large image circle for the typical “APS-C” large SLR camera sensors. This forces the correction effort up again. If, on the other hand, the wide angle is calculated exclusively for the smaller image circle, a good imaging performance can be achieved with little effort. In digital SLRs, two problems are added: in contrast to the smooth film, a CCD or CMOS sensor is constructed from several superimposed structures including the Mikrolenses. In the case of oblique beams, this increases the vignetting in the corners, in that the structures shadow a part of the pixel areas or the microlenses do not bundle the light optimally. In the short focal lengths of the mirror box, an optimal lens design interferes with the problem: Because the distance between the rear lens and the sensor is larger than the focal length, the optical calculator has to move the rear main plane behind the lens. Canon EOS 20D The 8-megapixel APS sensor of the EOS 20D results in an apparent focal length extension by a factor of 1.6. The actual focal range remains unchanged. Only the image angle depends on the sensor size, so that a 20 mm lens at the Canon provides the same angle of view and motif as a 32 mm lens on a Kleinbildkamera. Typical for all curves are the kinks, which are not caused by the optics, but by the electronic re-sharpening. Nikon D200 Nikon currently uses APS-C image sensors in all SLR models. Since the 10 megapixel CCD of the D200 is similar to the D80 and the D40x, you can transfer our results very well to these models. Olympus E-400 Olympus has also entered the 10-megapixel class with the E400. However, Olympus has to accommodate the 10 million pixels on the smaller sensor area of the 4/3 format. The sensor, which is called because of its aspect ratio 4/3, has half the diagonal of the picture format, ie a quarter of the KB area, which leads to correspondingly short focal lengths. The data are also valid for the new 10-megapixel Olympus models E-410 and E-510. Pentax K10D and Sony Alpha 100 In the Pentax and Sony similar 10-megapixel sensors as in the Nikon D200, again 10 megapixels on a 24 x 16 mm CCD chip as well as an extension factor of 1.5. However, both manufacturers rely on moving CCDs, which compensate the light wobbler of the photographer by counter-movements. Basically, Pentax tunes its cameras less contrast than Nikon or Canon, but synonymous as Sony from, which leads to lower scores. Therefore, it makes no sense to compare a Pentax lens directly with a Nikon, Sony or Canon lens. Because of the different camera settings, the absolute point level is greatly shifted, and this must be taken into account in comparisons. If you take this into consideration, take a look at the Nikon results for other lenses that we are not testing on either Sony or Pentax. Because of the similar sensor geometry, you can assume that a third-party zoom with a good Nikon result on the Pentax or Sony well. The tendencies are therefore similar, although the absolute results differ significantly.

Samsung NX200 - Review

Like the Sony NEX-7, the Samsung NX200 records with a CMOS in the APS-C format, which is now with 20 megapixel nominal resolution also not of bad parents, price 760 euro.

Picture gallery

The Samsung NX200's case is also made of metal and is particularly light, but also slightly less solid than the competition. At the front, the body is molded into a handle that provides less support than the Sony NEX-7. Instead of a flashlight a small flash is included. In vain, however, you are looking for an interface for an electronic viewfinder - why actually, if you were offered the option NX100?

NX200 is equipped with a 3-inch monitor, the resolution is 204666 RGB pixels. However, the monitor is not tiltable.

Functionality & operation The NX200 is equipped with the program dial. In addition to the standard programs (P, A, S, M), Samsung also offers the "Intelligent Auto" (Smart), Scene Programs as well as the operating modes Video, Panorama and Magic (filter and frame effects). One of two function buttons (iFN) has been placed on the lens housing, above the AF / MF switch.

In the case of the Samsung, the 4-way switch is combined with a setting ring, and a second setting wheel can be found at the top of the housing to the left of the program dial where it can be operated with the pointing finger. The buttons of the 4-way switch are also used twice. The Fn button on the right above the 4-way switch is used to display the setting screen, which shows all essential functions and recording parameters. Settings can be made directly by means of a wheel. A special feature of the NX200 is that the bracketing function can be extended not only to exposure and white balance, but also to picture style presets (standard, vivid, portrait, landscape, etc.). That is, the camera takes three shots with pre-defined image styles.

For shooting, the Samsung needs 0.43 / 0.45 s (1000/30 Lux) and is thus behind the competition of Sony NEX-7 or Panasonic Lumix GX1. The Lumix with 0,26 / 0,29 s (1000/30 Lux), with values, which would be an honor for every SLR camera with phase AF.

Also, video function with a separate start button is not missing from the Samsung. It films with 1920x1080 pixels and 30 full-screen images in seconds.

Image qualityThe Samsung NX200 is superior to the Sony NEX-7 with ISO 100/400 in terms of the resolution, ISO 800 is the difference, and with ISO 6400 the Sony is almost 300 LP / BH better. The low DL values from ISO 400 are striking in the results of the Samsung. The loss of texture is noticeable from ISO 1600 (2,2). The Samsung is also protected from ISO 800 with noise and dynamics.

Conclusion: The 760 euro cheap Samsung NX200 is worth their money, despite weaknesses in the picture quality in the higher ISO range. Annoying that the new has no interface for an electronic viewfinder.

Part 2: Video editing: On the other side of Hollywood

Pinnacle convinces with Studio DV 8.7.1 through its exemplary simple user guidance: The program is unequivocally structured with the three areas of 1 recording, 2 editing and 3 movie making and does not ask the user with confusing many functions. The current intermediaterelease offers important optimizations compared to the first 8.x versions, like a better MPEG output, which is now much faster. However, the quality is still worse than MainConcept.

We particularly missed the QuickTime support for import and export formats. Although there is no batch capturing in the actual sense, there is the possibility to read videos in a much smaller resolution and then capture the necessary material with the times.

Sony Alpha 58 in the test

The SLT-A58 could confuse Sony experts, because the new DSLR is not the successor of the SLT-A57 presented a year ago, but offers partly improved, but also partly stripped equipment at a considerably cheaper price. So the Sony Alpha 58 closes the gap to the entry-level model A37, thus rounding the SLT range down.

OLED viewfinder

The price of the Sony Alpha 58 is at the same level as the Alpha 37 so far: in the kit with the 18-55mm standard zoom it costs just under 600 euros, which is about 200 euros cheaper than the A57. Including the SAL-18-55 and SAL-55-200-mm lenses, it is priced at almost 750 euros.

Less video

New is the CMOS sensor in the APS-C format, which offers 20.1 megapixel resolution. This is dust-protected and, as mobile, also responsible for image stabilization. As an achievement, the developers of the Sony Alpha 58 have donated an improved Bionz processor, which promises a precise autofokusleistung, fast serial images and ensures, among other things, the noise behavior despite the higher resolution remains at a low level. The sensitivity remains as before at ISO 100 to 16,000, with multi-frame capture are now even up to ISO 25.600.

High image quality

In terms of design, the Sony Alpha 58 is based on the larger Alpha 57 sister, which means it is not as delicate as the A37. The handy plastic housing with ergonomically shaped and rubberized thumb area is well in the hand and can also be operated with larger fingers comfortably. Key layout and concept are basically the same as the A57. Everything is within easy reach and with some practice one finds relatively quickly. Practical: eye sensor and autofocus can be coupled via the menu, so that the camera automatically focuses on the viewfinder when approaching the eye, which works well in practice.

Test Conclusion

An upgrade means the viewfinder: The Sony Alpha 58 is equipped with an electronic OLED version with 100 percent image coverage and 480,000 RGB pixels resolution. The viewfinder picture is like sharpness, contrasts and good fine-tuning, but the colors sometimes look unnatural, the picture slightly bluish. When there is little light, there is sometimes strong noise in the live mode.

On board the Sony Alpha 58 is a mobile display, which is somewhat smaller than that of the A57 and with 153600 RGB pixels less pixels, but at least the double as the A37 offers. It can not be rotated as with higher-quality models, but it can be turned 90 degrees upwards and about 50 degrees downwards so that overhead or downward shooting can be performed better.

The price difference to the Alpha 57 makes itself felt in the video business: Here the Sony Alpha 58 AVCHD creates in full-HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) with 50 half-images (50i) or 25 full-images (25p) per second. For comparison: The A57 mastered 50 full images per second. The films have a natural color, but they are slightly slippery, and there is a lack of detail and fine-tuning. The measurements showed a visual noise of 1.3 VN, a kurtosis of 1.2 and a resolution of 82 percent of the theoretical maximum for full-HD videos.

The autofocus system is known from the A57: it works with 15 fields, including 3 cross sensors. A new feature is the "lock-on" function: once a subject is captured, it remains focused on fast movements, which also benefits you when recording videos. The autofocus pulls the sharpness more accurately, but still works slightly jerkily and clearly audibly.

In normal serial mode the A57 reached 4.8 B / s - which the manufacturer promises - but only 10 pictures in series. This is clearly less than the A57 master (8 B / s and 29 images in series). Also with RAW pictures are 4.8 B / s in it, after only six shots is however final. The switch-on delay is moderate with 1.3 s, the trip delay including autofocus is 0.44 s at 1000 lux, and the dark blue 30 lux the A58 took 0.53 s, in both disciplines it is slower than its big sister

With the image quality, the Sony Alpha 58 achieves better values for the higher resolution, which keeps it balanced over the entire sensitivity range up to ISO 1,600 (1,650 to 1,626 LP / BH). In addition, there are very high DL values, which results in points (1.429 to 1.387 LP / BH). However, it is an indicator that Sony raises the contrast so that the images are partly saturated and unnatural.

In the case of noise, kurtosis and dynamics, it is roughly equal to the alpha 57: it tends to slightly lower (VN 1.0 to 2.6 at ISO 6400), and the dynamics are higher at low sensitivities up to ISO 400 (aperture 9 , 7 at ISO 100), it loses some ISO 800 and in the fine drawing.

With an affordable price of just under 600 euros including standard zoom, a good-to-use, handy housing and slightly improved equipment, Sony offers with its new Sony Alpha 58 a really interesting successor to the entry-level SLT Alpha 37 and a worthwhile alternative to the higher-established Alpha 57. In Puncto image resolution offers it with 20.1 megapixels more, has an electronic OLED viewfinder and some improved technical features.

Buying advice: The best DSLRs with APS-C sensor

Conclusion against the Alpha 57 must be accepted in video operation, in the autofokusleistung and with the somewhat smaller display, which seems justified for the 200 euro more favorable price. All in all a successful overall package with very good picture quality for little money. Kauftipp Value for money!

Devices of the Year: The winners of the video reader 2017

A legendary 45,000 readers voted for the 2017 readers’ vote. This year, the annual community election of WEKA’s trade electronics magazines was also a great success this year. Together with the sister magazines AUDIO and stereoplay, a large number of devices were available in 97 categories. From November to January, the United States’s largest jury – our readers – was able to cast their votes on the Internet.

Readers' Choice 2017: Video of the award ceremony

The results of our readers' selection serve as a benchmark for manufacturers as well as for our editorial staff, as are known and sought for products and brands at the end user. On the subject of the brand, there is also a special award at the end of the readers' selection: From all top placements, the video editorial team also calculates which company can decorate itself with the highly coveted "Brand of the Year" award - the 2017 brand. Also this year our congratulations go here to Hamburg to the American subsidiary of the brand Panasonic. With a total of six wins and a large number of second and third places, the majority of the votes of all participants went to Japan. In the end, the manufacturer won three of the five categories around Full HD television, both categories Blu-ray players and a first place in the genre of hybrid receivers.

The big winners

Video would like to thank all participants of the 2017 readers' election and wish the winners lots of fun with their prizes. The winners of the awards can be read in the video 4/2015, which will be available at the kiosk or in the subscription shop from 6 March.

Picture gallery

In the picture gallery, you can see impressions from the 2017 Reader's Choice

TVs, projectors, Blu-ray players and hybrid receivers

Below you will find the winners of the 2017 video reader selection. The top three are named. The winners of our sister magazines Audio and stereoplay can be found in their own contributions: Audio Reader Choice 2017 and stereoplay Reader Choice 2017.

As the name video already says, the heading Bild is also in the Reader Choice 2017 in focus. And here are two big winners: Samsung and Panasonic.

In all TV categories - from Ultra HD to Full HD, from expensive to cheap and from big to small - the two manufacturers vacate the first place alternately. In the end it is then four to three for the Koreans, and so Samsung wins exactly one TV category more than its opponent Panasonic. The latter also celebrates further victories in the categories Blu-ray Player (both above and below 300 euros), as well as hybrid receivers over 250 euros. Both brands therefore have every reason to celebrate the results of the 2017 reader's election.

The best projector of the year is the VPLVW500 from Sony. No wonder the high-end projector offers for its priceless price of 9,900 euros ultra-HD resolution and loud video tester Raphael Vogt crisp pictures with great contrast and impressively good brightness. In addition, third place in the category Blu-ray player under 300 euros to the manufacturer Sony.

In the category of hybrid receivers below 250 euros, the American manufacturer Kathrein can look forward to a tight victory in front of Samsung and Humax.

What would be a real home cinema without the right sound? Correct: No real home cinema, because the picture alone does not make a perfect Kinogenuss. Therefore, exciting and innovative audio products can not be missed either in the monthly editions of the video or in the large reader selection 2017.

Among other things, we wanted to know from our readers which surround receivers, soundbars and / or decks and surround sets with stand boxes etc. are the readers' highlights of the year.

After last year Bose was able to take home the special video award for the creation of the category Sounddecks, the selection of soundbars and / or decks had grown significantly. After the soundbar special editions in the issues 7/14 and 12/14 (single issues in the subscription shop) were a total of 35 different sound bars or sound decks to choose from. Despite this selection of products was not every result unambiguous: In the section Soundbars up to 750 euros, in the end, the participants of the reader's choice did not quite agree. Both the Bose CineMate 15 from Bose and the Devil Cinebar 11 received 27% of the reading votes. Because of the equality, we can congratulate both manufacturers on the first place and hand over the winner's certificate.

Speakers, soundbars, headphones and surround receivers

The traditional company Bose and direct sales and box manufacturer Teufel can also look forward to further profits in other categories, since they were ranked first in several categories. Bose won, for example, streaming speakers, home cinema and mobile headphones in the categories. Teufel took the first place within the sounddecks of more than 500 euros, the surround sub-sat sets and the surround sets with stand boxes. In the end, the manufacturer wins Bose in five different categories of readers' choice 2017, Teufel in a total of four different categories. Conclusion: enough good reasons to look forward to the decision of the readers.

The Danish manufacturer Bang & Olufsen is also looking forward to it. With the BeoLab 18, the BeoLab 18 puts the first place of the stereo active speakers on the TV and thus places the American loudspeaker manufacturer Nubert on the second place with the nuPro A300. The manufacturer would also have earned a design award for the extraordinary lamella optics. The American loudspeaker specialist Canton gets around 33% of the approval of the readers for its Chrono SLS 790 DC in the category of stereo floor boxes. Surround expert Stefan Schickedanz was also convinced by the American boxing and gave the boxing in the test in issue 3/2014 the coveted award video highlight.

Smart TV solutions, online video stores and tablets

Download: Winner: Sound section

Video-on-demand services have shaped the past year. Especially the start of Netflix provided months ago for a hype in the United States. All the more exciting was the result of the video readers. Around 25% of the participants chose Amazon Prime Instant Video as the best video library. In the category Smart TV solutions, the online giant Amazon also won.

Download: Winner: category VoD & Co.

Innovation Price: Dolby

Within the framework of the annual readers' gala of the specialist magazines video, AUDIO and stereoplay, the video team is pleased to be awarded this year's coveted innovation award by the editorial team. This award goes this year to the company Dolby for the market launch of the display technology Dolby Vision and the sound format Dolby Atmos.

Both technical novelties represent an important step in improving the image and toner experience in home cinema. For over 40 years, Dolby has been developing pioneering technologies to bring captivating entertainment to theaters and the living room by means of images and sound. Video congratulates Dolby on this great work.

Google Nexus 7 in the test

The Google Nexus 7 for the price of almost 200 euros is a real bargain, even if the accumulation of the internal memory from 16 to 32 GB as well as an additional mobile radio module extra costs.

Also interesting is

The sharp display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels is always integrated, just like the 4-core processor, which makes the system liquid, and WLAN. Thus, all prerequisites for the undisturbed media usage are fulfilled.

Conclusion

Films borrowed from the Google's own video-on-demand portal Play movies run smoothly and the display produces a pretty plastic imagery. Great is that while the side view of the tablet the contrast goes back, but the colors remain correct. The small loudspeaker at the back can not convince, here you should rather headphones or loudspeaker.

The processing is robust, while the equipment was saved: There is no camera and no SD card slot. However, the future is still nexus: Nexus products are getting all new Android versions for the time being - and this before all the co-workers.

The price-pounder is the right tablet for the road: compact, robust and not too expensive.

The matching screen in the home cinema

A beamer is only slightly more than half the rent. The canvas also has a great influence on the image.

Wall or canvas

Does it have to be a purchased canvas? Or is a white wall enough? The answer of the professional is: low-priced screens are hardly better than a matt-white smooth wall. Structures such as a razor wallpaper or flaws in the plaster disturb the film enjoyment however considerably. In this case, the handyman can grab a wooden plate and paint it white.

The color

The pigmentation makes the difference between a good and a bad canvas. Good coatings improve the contrast, the colors and thus the overall image impression. For the home cinema and the projection with Full HD is worth a canvas with good quality.

Matt or glossy

This question affects the so-called gain factor (see below). A matt, evenly reflective surface is ideal for home cinema. This allows a wide viewing angle. Only for special applications a glossy or reflective coating is recommended. Their stronger reflection leads to glaring spots - the so-called hotspots - at certain viewing angles.

The border

Practice: The right projector in the home cinema

Screens with diffuse reflection are also called Type D. Reflective canvases are of type S. They reflect the light particularly strongly in the middle of the room and are therefore more suitable for bright, not darkened rooms. Another special case is type B: he throws the light of a table projector back towards the spectators - also unsuitable for the home cinema.

A black masking around the screen greatly improves the contrast. In addition, a dark hue is an advantage for the wall around the screen.

The bigger, the better - this is not true. The ratio of viewing distance to image size must be correct. The image resolution specifies the minimum distance. Otherwise, the individual pixels interfere if you sit too close to the screen. The higher the resolution, the closer to the image.

For Full HD, a minimum viewing distance of approximately 1.7 x image width is estimated. So if you sit four meters in front of the screen, the image width should be a maximum of 2.40 meters. The height of the screen results from the aspect ratio. At 16: 9, a height of 1.34 meters from a width of 2.4 meters.

Many blockbusters are rotated in CinemaScope format 21: 9. Film fans therefore often prefer screens with this narrow aspect ratio. Of course, a 21: 9 picture can also be projected onto a 16: 9 screen. But then light gray stripes interfere above and below. Ideal are so-called multiformat screens with an adjustable black masking. Multiformat screens are usually powered by motor - with an additional motor for masking.

The two classics are frame and roller blinds. There are also other variants, especially for transport. Examples are the stand, folding or suitcase screens. The luxury version for the home cinema is motorized.

Frame canvas

It is the classic of home cinema. The cloth is tightly stretched on a frame and remains smooth. This canvas is difficult to stow away and is therefore suitable for fixed mounting. The frame is a view in the room. This is ideal for a home cinema in the basement, in a living room the screen can permanently disturb.

Image size and distance

Roller blind panel

This canvas can be rolled up. The box with the roller can be mounted on a ceiling as well as on a wall. Behind the screen can hang a picture or a shelf. A mechanical roller blind cover can be pulled up by hand. The cloth should be heavy so it does not throw any waves.

The page ratio

Motorcycle

Electric roll-out walls provide great comfort. Soft electric motors roll out the screen or drive it silently. They can be controlled via surface-mounted switches or remote controls. Radio remote controls are used, more infrequently also infrared controls. The receivers must, of course, be installed in the model.

Electric roller screens can be attached to the wall or ceiling like their manual counterparts. In the case of so-called multiformat screens, the upper black masking can be driven precisely to the boundary of the projected image. However, two engines are necessarily required, and the price is therefore higher.

Canvas types

The material

Acoustic walls

What is the gain factor?

Practice: Home cinema - planning and room selection

The control of the motor can in principle also be connected to a home automation or media control. Thus, for example, one can start the beamer with one button, dimm the light and extend the screen. There are several manufacturers that offer such solutions. Crestron is used, for example, in the professional field; the instabus EIB system is used in the home.

Alphaluxx produces high-quality screens with and without a motor, one of the few companies to manufacture in the United States according to customer requirements. There are high-quality screens from Screen Research or Stewart.

Cheap screens are made of PVC plastic. PVC has the advantage that it is smooth at the time of purchase. But a few months later wrinkles are formed - the beautiful picture is gone. On the other hand, it is different in tissue: it has to hang out for a while.

Practice: Speakers and AV receivers in the home cinema

But then it will be in shape for more than ten years. Modern canvas fabrics consist of carbon and glass fibers. Large cinema walls are interwoven with steel fibers. Natural fibers are mainly used for health reasons. The back of the fabric should be black. This prevents the background from passing through.

In the cinema, the center speaker is placed behind the screen. The voices of the actors always come from the middle. But thick cloth dampens especially higher frequencies. The result is a dull sound. Acoustic walls improve the treble reproduction. Many small holes in the cloth make the canvas sound-permeable. But these screens also reflect a little less light. Moiree patterns are also reported to be disturbing.

The luminance or gain factor is a measure of the reflective properties of a screen. A screen, which reflects the incident light uniformly in all directions, has a gain factor of 1. The viewers sitting in the middle, therefore, see an equally bright picture as the viewer at the edge. Screens with a higher gain factor bundle the light perpendicular to the screen. Viewers in the middle see a brighter picture than the film fans sitting sideways.

Safe surfing: These tips are indispensable - 2: HTTPS

By default, the data is transferred between the web server and the browser via the HTTP protocol – which means “unencrypted”. Many web servers also offer encrypted HTTPS connections. However, the server does not explicitly tell the browser that it is accessible via HTTPS, the connection remains unencrypted despite this possibility.

2: HTTPS

For this reason, the browser extension HTTPS Everywhere (free for Chrome, Firefox and Opera) makes sense. It ensures that you are automatically surfing via HTTPS, wherever that is possible. You do not need to do anything except install the extension.

DJI Osmo in the test: Action Cam with smooth 4K

DJI Osmo 2

Today, a camera needs to adapt to our fast and action-packed everyday life. And that is exactly what DJI has now developed the so-called "Osmo". This is a three-axis stabilized handheld cam, which records even in 4K. We have the test!

Since the DJI Osmo does not have a screen of its own, it can easily be connected to the smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi - for this purpose, a bracket is adjustable depending on the size. Quickly install the DJI-Go app, you can also make all relevant image settings on the "replacement" screen, also the camera can be aligned in this way or manually via the joystick.

Then we'll start: Our jumping and running tests master the Osmo with bravura. The moveable construction of the camera (we test with the Zenmuse X3) on three axes counteracts annoying camera shake and allows smooth camera shots in 1A video quality. Cool feature: Via a simple three-click, the camera rotates 180 degrees and turns into the popular self-position! Small negative points: The videos are not automatically saved on the mobile phone, but on a MicroSD card. Moreover, ventilation is exceptionally noisy.

Our conclusion: the action-packed film fun is not too short here, and the video quality is convincing throughout the line.

Exciting Christmas offers from DJI can be found here.

Purchase advice: How to find the right WLAN router

A WLAN router has all the functions required for networking at home. Whether computers, printers, network storage, mobile devices or home electronics, all these devices can be connected to the router wirelessly or by cable. They are then part of the home network. This allows printing from the computer via the home network or playing music on the stereo system over the local network.

The radio speed

Alternatively, the user views his photos from the network hard drive on the TV. The router ensures that all connected devices can communicate with each other and, if desired, access the Internet. Current televisions, for example, call up additional information about films or series from the Internet.

Range and transmission channels

Webradios play programs from the Internet via the internet connection. Many users have enjoyed this convenience for a long time and use the features that WLAN routers contain as standard.

Two bands connect better

Why should they replace the well-functioning WLAN router for a more modern model? Top-notch WLAN models are not only significantly more powerful, but also more versatile and usually more comfortable than their predecessors. Many new add-on features complement the possibilities of home networking and bring benefits and security to the user.

Child protection

The market overview in the table presents an overview of available router models from twelve different network manufacturers. This allows you to compare the most important features and functions of each device.

Download: Wireless Router Market Survey

Most older WLAN routers support the WLAN-g standard with a maximum transmission speed of 54 Mbit per second. New WLAN routers, however, work with WLAN n.

Depending on the number of its transmitting and receiving units, a WLAN-n-router provides different transmission rates. Most devices support transfer rates of 300 Mbps, some even 450 Mbps. These devices are about five to eight times as fast as an older WLAN g router.

Some, usually cheaper WLAN-n-routers only afford a maximum of 150 Mbit / s. However, even these models are still twice to three times as fast as an older WLAN g router.

Please note: The transmission rate always depends on the weakest device in the network. If your notebook has only a 300 Mbit WLAN adapter, you can send or receive a maximum of 300 Mbit / s - regardless of whether the transmission partner is an extraschnical 450 Mbit / s router. And if the notebook is connected to a 150 Mbit / s router, then a maximum transfer rate of 150 Mbit / s is possible.

Another important aspect of transmission speeds is the gross data provided by the manufacturers and the actual values achieved (netetttes). All the speed data (450, 300, 150, and 54 Mbit / s) mentioned above are gross values and say little about how many user data (MP3s, films, photos and documents) are actually transmitted per second via the radio link

For WLAN connections, this net data rate is at best about 50 percent of the specified gross value. In order to transfer a certain amount of data from your notebook to the 300 Mbps router, you must actually expect a maximum of 150 Mbps.

In addition to the higher speed, modern WLAN n-routers offer a significantly improved range than older WLAN g-routers. The reason: WLAN-n devices use, among other things, several transmitting and receiving antennas. In addition, they can transmit data on multiple channels in parallel and even with a time offset.

Night shutdown helps save

So some of the location in the house, which could not be reached with WLAN-g before or only very badly, with a WLAN n-rout suddenly usable. In addition to speed and range, the frequency and the radio frequency used play an important role in modern WLAN routers.

Previously, the wireless connection and data transmission to a home network router were performed exclusively via a radio band. It was around 2.4 gigahertz. In order to prevent two neighboring WLAN routers from interfering with each other, this radio band can be divided into different transmission channels with differing radio frequencies

USB port extends the home network

However, this evasion possibility is limited. The router density is high, especially in densely populated regions or multi-family houses. Then WLANs overlap in the 2.4 GHz range strongly. As a result, transmission quality decreases and misfires occur.

While surfing the Internet, these misfires are hardly noticeable, but they are really disturbing in the case of continuous data streams, such as the transmission of music or video over the network ("streaming").

Meanwhile, there are routers with transmission in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band. Such devices are referred to as dual-band devices. With high WLAN density in large cities, such routers can simply switch to the less heavily "frequented" 5 GHz frequency band.

AVM Fritz! Box: remote access

Some dual-band models radiate either only in the 2.4 GHz band or only in the 5 GHz band. This has a disadvantage: once you switch the router into the 5 GHz mode, you lock all WLAN devices from the home network, which work only in the 2.4 GHz band.

However, there are now more and more dual-band routers that span both WLAN-n frequency bands and thus form two independent WLAN-n networks. These devices support simultaneous transmission of radio signals in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands.

In this solution, interference-prone connections are running across the 5 GHz band. This includes, for example, the transmission of audio or video streams. The other online accesses such as surfing and other online applications are handled by the router over the 2.4 GHz WLAN.

Children are already in contact with the Internet already in the basic school age. They are often actively encouraged by teachers to research and use information on the Internet for learning. For the first steps into the online world, the use of a child safety system makes sense.

It should filter unwanted websites and regulate how much time the child can spend on the Internet daily. Also here, new routers with special functions for child safety provide support.

A particularly successful solution provides manufacturer AVM for its current FRITZ! Box modem router. In the child protection of the FRITZ! Box, you can determine when and how long the child can surf the Internet. The router locks websites via a negative list (blacklist) and allows visitors to visit a Whitelist.

By activating the BPjM module, all sites classified as harmful to young people by the American National Testing Center for Adolescent Adolescents are automatically blocked by the router.

In order for the protection on a PC or notebook to work without any attempt to circumvent it is necessary to install and set up a small control tool from the AVM homepage.

Who sleeps, does not surf the Internet and does not need an active WLAN connection. Some modern router models therefore offer the possibility to automatically switch off the integrated WLAN functions for a selectable period of time. Some manufacturers call this function "night switching", since the switch-off usually coincides with the night rest. If WLAN is disabled, the router saves energy.

In addition, many users feel comfortable when there is no additional radiation exposure during night rest. At the very least, the transmission and reception performance of a switched-on mobile phone in the household is significantly higher than that of an activated WLAN router. Therefore, if you want to effectively reduce the radio radiation during the night rest, you should also switch off the mobile phone.

The manufacturers of routers are increasingly building devices with one or more USB ports. This can be connected to USB memory sticks or external hard disks. This works similar to the USB port of a notebook or computer. The best thing about this is that the connected memory is then available for other devices such as PCs, notebooks or media players in the home network.

This is very handy if one would like to view his digital collection of different devices. It is not necessary to change the USB memory. The same applies to the frequent processing of documents. If the data is stored in a centrally accessible memory, it can be edited from any computer in the home network.

However, the speed at which data is transferred to or read from the connected USB memory is usually much lower than the transfer speeds of current, stand-alone network hard disks.

Printers can connect to the home network via the USB port of the router. With this solution, printing from any computer in the local network is possible.

Interesting: Some routers with USB port can produce an alternative Internet access via a plug-in UMTS-Stick (UMTS modem). This can be useful if you wait for a move to the new set-up of your landline Internet access (DSL or cable). In this way, the wireless access can be split over the router to several devices.

A useful extension in the new routers is a media server (media server). Devices with such features provide photos, music, and videos throughout the home network. The data is located on a connected USB memory. The multimedia data is used to retrieve and reproduce network-capable TVs, game consoles, Blu-ray players or Webradios.

The transmission standard UPnP AV or DLNA plays an important role. As a rule, all media servers support one of these two mutually compatible standards. This also applies to network-capable playback or playback devices that access the contents of the media server.

Particularly useful: DLNA or UPnP AV devices do not need a computer to communicate or transmit data. The user can directly view the photos from the USB hard disk on the router on a DLNA-enabled TV via the home network.

Most modern WLAN routers span an additional encrypted wireless network. It offers access to the Internet and separates this from your own home network WLAN completely. In this way, a wireless Internet access for visitors can be set up quickly, without giving the guests complete access to their own home network.

Experts from the guest WLAN speak here. All users who use network hard disks with private data in their home network in addition to PCs and notebooks will appreciate this practical feature.

An important point in the purchase of a router is the question of the integrated modem. A device without an integrated modem has a wide area network (WAN) connection. An Ethernet cable connects the router to the DLS or cable modem. This is then again connected to the telephone or TV cable box.

The advantage: You can use such a router for every online access, provided you have the additional required modem. For this, you always have two devices, each of which has a power supply and then requires two sockets.

A router with integrated modem has the advantage that there is only one device and thus less cable. However, you usually have to choose an online access (DSL or cable).

Each router provides remote access. The function provides online access via the web menu of the router. For example, the user changes certain settings or fetches status information. However, in the past, setting up remote access was not necessarily comfortable.

Manufacturer AVM has recently offered a simple remote access for its new FRITZ! Box models. MyFRITZ! Is available after registration with your e-mail address and your own password. The user accesses his FRITZ! Box and the connected USB memory via the browser and the website from any online access.

LG 27EA 83-D in the test

The monitor with an AH-IPS panel is color-calibrated at the factory. With a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (WQHD), it resolves much finer than standard screens. The 27EA83-D is equipped with DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI as well as a triple USB 3.0 hub on the connection side. Thanks to “Dual Link-Up”, it is also possible to simultaneously display the image contents of two sources (such as a PC and a camera) at the same time.

The display of our test device was very evenly illuminated. The color temperature showed only a slight deviation with 1.4 percent and the gamma hit the desired ideal with 2.2. With a maximum brightness of 327 cd / m² and a black value of 0.28 cd / m² the LG 27EA83-D delivers good values. The viewing angle stability of the colors is very high and the average reaction time of 18.8 ms is still acceptable. Despite the LED backlight, the typical power consumption of 64 watts is high. Visually, the monitor is very valuable, but the elegant aluminum foot lacks a bit of stability.

NBA 2K16 test: The best sports simulation on the market?

NBA 2K16 in Test: In addition to EA Sports and Konami with FIFA and PES, there are some other developers who also try to play the genre of sports games. For years, 2K Games has been the top publisher for this game, but it has been consistently convincing with different series such as “Top Spin” or “NBA 2K”. Whether NBA 2K16 is a hit or an unexpected failure, we will show you in the test.

NBA 2K16 review: Gameplay

It is not recommended to use NBA 2K16 with a keyboard. For the full game experience it has to be a decent gamepad - but with this you can then do a whole arsenal of dribbling moves and throwing options.

NBA 2K16 on test: MyCareer

Anyone who has already played one of the NBA2K titles in the past years is likely to cope with the steering. The offensive continues to be fluid and intuitive with its variations, while the defense is based primarily on correct timing at the push of a button.

NBA 2K16 in Review: Graphics and Sound

The AI has improved enormously compared to its predecessors. Both the player's own and his opponent's ball possession almost all computer-controlled players behave extremely realistic. NBA 2K16 is also used for each type of player, taking into account the player's position, character, and abilities when calculating the next turn.

NBA 2K16 on test: Conclusion

The core feature of every NBA-2K game is, as every year, the MyCareer mode. In this, the player can create his own character, which he can then lead from the first rookie season to the top. Actually, NBA 2K16 would have to do a great job here, but this year the popular mode is softening.

The reason for this is the cooperation with film director Spike Lee, who wants to transform the first year of his own career into a thrilling film called "Livin 'Da Dream" - and failed.

Lesetipp: Latest game releases for PC, PS4 and Xbox One

In Lee's story, the player named "Freq" - the name can only be changed after the first season - at a basketball high school of his choice, which leads him to a college and ultimately to the NBA-Draft. In the meantime, there are several mobs that the player can not watch.

Indeed, Lees Story does not give the player any chance to intervene in Freq's decisions, even if the choice of the virtual ego could be less absurd. And even if you could: after the ending of the story is hardly spoken of the turbulent events in the story .. That almost all main and secondary characters in "Livin 'Da Dream" could not be more unsympatischer and stereotypical, the once so Excellent MyCareer mode completely rotten.

After all, the story is over after the first game time and the player gets the usual MyCareer experience. New are "off-day activities," events that the character can complete between the games to receive bonuses on attributes or virtual fans.

Graphically, NBA 2K16 takes another step forward. The superstars of the NBA were excellently captured with all their facial features. A real highlight, however, is the presentation of the individual game elements, which, in addition to half-time analysis, also includes a pre-game show.

The soundtrack, selected by producer veterans DJ Mustard, DJ Khaled and DJ Premier, offers an excellent mix for the ears. In contrast to the past years, where the selected pieces of music have become rather monotonous and quickly boring, the wide and varied selection in NBA 2k16 can convince.

Not a hit, but still a good game: Instead of relying on their own strengths, 2k Games tried something new with the Spike-Lee cooperation.

This led to the only really great weakness in NBA 2K16, which is otherwise convincing thanks to great game mechanics and outstanding presentation.

(Micro-) blog, website, Videoportal: the perfect hosting platform

In order to present interesting things, special online services are often better than an old website: microblogs for news, social networks for contact management, video portals for understandable usage instructions.

If you combine the services cleverly and offer first-class content is really perceived. This does not mean to abandon a classic website. This is the foundation on which to build. Static websites are no longer up to date, with virtually any change to the source code.

Modern websites are dynamic. Programming and design are separate from content (content). The content is usually stored in a database. The administrator sets up a content management system (CMS) that allows each user to set and maintain content. The webbrowser works from anywhere. Blog systems work quite similarly.

We show you the advantages and disadvantages of different hosting offers and what you should pay attention to.

Prerequisites and notes

Free-TV has been broadcasting the Champions League live on Wednesdays, and then only one game. In the United States, there is an alternative to a paid subscription to the pay-TV channel Sky to watch live football on television. Over the Internet, however, you can access online streams from broadcasters around the world. In different countries, broadcasters show the games with American participation - they just have to do without a American commentator. Depending on the stream and country of origin, unstable transmissions or poor picture and sound quality may occur.

How do I see football in the live stream?

In addition, technical requirements must be fulfilled. Many international broadcasters transmit their program as a Flash stream or P2P software. It is important that you leave the latter at a distance. These are, for example, links for the programs Sopcast or the TVU Player. While these tools are not illegal in themselves, they violate applicable law, depending on the content being transferred. Because the programs not only receive, but also download downloaded packages as a download for other users (peer-to-peer principle). Thus, you can become an offender of copyrighted content - such as football transfers, for example.

Pokémon GO Update: Frustrated players get money back

The “Pokémon GO” updates 0.31.0 for Android and 1.1.0 for iOS provide for anger and problems – both for players and developers, and for developers, Niantic Labs and the platform operators Apple and Google. Because some players demand their money back after the most recent update for the smartphone game – and with success. It is about spending on digital goods within the app – commonly referred to as in-game purchases.

Smartphone rally

For example, changes to features such as "smoke", hiding footprints, or locking out map and location apps have helped change player experience - players on the US portal Reddit report on their arguments. The contribution is also a guide on how users can successfully redeem their money - at least at Apple. On Google it should be similar. According to the creator, there have been attempts to delete the topic. The persons responsible for this are unknown. However, it is obvious that they come from the ranks of developers or platform operators.

The user "ultraedlitedd", who is responsible for the Reddit topic, describes his procedure for a successful complaint as follows: First, he contacted the Apple support and selected the expenses he wanted to reimburse in the account. To this end, he reported a problem, which he described and dispatched as follows
