The TV novelties of the IFA 2017

Samsung is this year on curved screens. The manufacturer has a total of 17 Curved TVs with screen diagonals of 48 to 105 inches at the IFA. In addition to the already known S9W with 105 inch image diagonal in the Cinemascope format 21: 9, Samsung has now presented as another highlight the flexible version. At the push of a button, the Bendable UHD TV can be converted from a flat screen TV into a Curved TV. This allows the viewer to adjust the TV to his taste.

While the two top-of-the-range models in Ultra HD offer quadruple full-HD resolution, Samsung offers the curved TV experience also in full-HD and mid-range equipment. The H6890 and H6870 Series 6 Series with screen sizes of 48 and 55 inches are intended to make Curved technology more accessible to viewers.

A more favorable entry into the world of the Curved TVs also want to offer other manufacturers. So Hisense has also introduced a flexible TV. The variable Curved TV is to be adapted perfectly to room size and seat spacing thanks to individually adjustable curvature. With a curved screen, the perfect seating distance is less than with a flat screen, according to Hisense. Hisense has not yet named a price for the variable Curved TV. Medion also has a Curved TV at the IFA with the Life X18028. The 55-inch TV with UHD resolution is expected to enter the market in the fourth quarter for 1,500 euros.

Sony is now providing a TV with a curved screen to its Ultra-HD models. The S90 series will appear in 65 and 75 inches. The TVs have implemented the new HEVC codec so that they can also receive high-resolution data and process them neatly. For example, the current Bravia 4K models will be able to receive Ultra-HD content from Prime Instant Video when Amazon starts streaming 4K content at the end of the year. Customers who purchase an X9, X95 and S90 series TV later this year will also receive a free hard drive for the release of five films made by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 4K.

Philips has also worked to bring more content in Ultra HD to its television. The UHD 880 media player can download HEVC-encoded content from the Internet to the Philips UHD models of the years 2013 and 2017. Customers who bought a TV series 8809, 8909, 9109 and 9809 of model year 2017 will receive the player, which is to appear in the first quarter of 2017, free of charge. It will cost 249 euros.

In terms of TV, Philips is expanding its program of Android-based Ultra-HD TVs by three models. With the 55PUS8909C is also a Curved TV with 55-inch screen in the program. The 9100 series with four-sided Ambilight is designed for discerning movie lovers, the 7900 series is to offer Ultra HD at an affordable price. Thanks to the Android platform, a large number of apps from the Google Play Store can be used to extend Philips' TV offer.

Panasonic, however, has not yet jumped on the Curved train. The manufacturer uses its innovative 4K models rather on innovative network functions. The models of the AXW904 and XW944 series are equipped with Sat-over-IP clients and servers. The TVs can thus not only receive TV signals via the home network. They are also able to provide the program received via satellite, cable or antenna to other devices in the home network. The TVs of the AXW904 series are available in 55 and 65 inches, the XW944 comes with 85-inch screen diagonal.

LG is currently the only manufacturer to hold OLED. Already in August, the manufacturer has announced to bring a 4K OLED TV to the market. Now LG has announced a premium OLED model together with Swarovski. The TV, which has around 460 Swarovski crystals, can currently be admired at IFA. In the fourth quarter, he is to come to the limited edition.

Last but not least, Loewe has a bent TV in his luggage. The Loewe Masterpiece with 65 inches is shown at the IFA as a design study. It is intended as a premium product for a distinctive experience. Loewe wants to achieve this through image technology as well as through an integrated sound system.
