Telekom Invoice Online: New security features announced

Telekom announces new security features for its online invoice system “Rechnung Online”. Three changes aim to ensure that users are less vulnerable to malware and a lower risk of phishing attacks. Telekom will use e-mails in the future as well as in the flow text of the e-mail enhanced private data. In addition to the personal salutation and the account account number, additional information about the address will also be added in the future, such as street and house number.

With the direct salutation, the Telekom would like to make clear that their e-mails are of a serious origin and ask the user to pay for actually ordered and delivered services. Many counterfeit telecom bills are already noticed by the fact that the supposed addressee for the fake bill is not mentioned by the name. Instead, cybercriminals are left with generic codes that the average user can not decrypt. A design similar to the telecom look then usually leads to the potential victim taking credit and paying supposedly debt.

But that is not all. As a second amendment, the Telekom announces a new e-mail seal, which is to allow a doubt-free authentication of the sender. A blue "@" character with a hook should be displayed. This should work in the browser, in the e-mail apps of the Telekom and on webpages of various e-mail providers. Mail programs such as Outlook or Thunderbird should not support the seal.

As a third feature for more security, the Telekom calls an invisible signature. E-mail providers read them out when they are sent and can determine whether the e-mail is malicious or a real invoice. The starting date for the start of the features is the 20th of February. If you do not agree that address data already ends in the subject, you can make subsequent changes in your customer account under "Invoice Online"
