Website Optimization: 5 SEO Tips on Website Acceleration

The performance of a website is among the most important SEO criteria. According to Cloud service provider Akamai, however, many sites are slower than they could and give away valuable places on the results pages of Google, Bing, Yahoo & Co. We give you five top tips to speed up your website and thus to the search engines Better.

Tip 1: Reduce the image size!

Without pictures, hardly a website has a useful value, but with too large photos the loading time increases. Use Web-optimized images with file sizes in the low kilobyte range. For many images, you can reduce the file size without degrading the image quality. This is enormously important especially for the charging time on mobile devices. This is the resolution and screen size of the most widely used smartphones and tablets.

Tip 2: Create a cache on the app and database level!

Users sometimes only get the impression that it takes a long time for the first content of a web page to appear in the browser. One of the means is to use caching at the application and database level. You can also split up content and reload the items later. By using short timeouts you can also get missing content from the backend and use static placeholders in your browser.

Tip 3: Visitor analysis instead of caching technology!

Some websites do not cache frequently visited pages for security and transparency reasons or for better traceability. As an alternative, it is recommended to separate the user-specific information from the HTML code. You should also see how visitors navigate a web page and use their content. Use beacons (counting pixels), tracking options such as "0 TTL" (Time to Live) or Client Beaconing.

Tip 4: Watch third-party content and Java scripts!

Content that a third party provides for your site (data for analytical purposes, promotional images, videos, etc.) may cause the loading times to increase. Especially Third Party JavaScript is known as a problem cause, because by default its execution blocks the retrieval and the reproduction of the following resources. One possible solution: Asynchronously, you must download absolutely necessary tags, such as specific advertising banners or guidelines for privacy policy. Also, use tags that are not urgently required for proper navigation. This also applies to cases where you need them for tracking reasons, regardless of the Onload JavaScript event.

Often, website owners forget the special features of mobile devices, such as a smaller display and lower transmission rates than notebooks and PCs. This can lead to dissatisfaction among the website visitors. Two measures provide a remedy: First, the latency can be reduced by limiting the redirects (for example from www.Firma.de to m.Firma.de). Secondly, you should process as little data as possible from the client device, but let it be done by the server or the cloud.

Tip 5: Think about the special features of mobile devices!
