If an error occurs during the operation of a software, a detailed error description with details of the individual operating steps for the support is usually more helpful than elaborate explanations, eg on the telephone. Windows 7 has a solution on board.
TIP 1: Error Document for Support
Tap "psr" in the search field on the Start menu and press Enter. The "Problem Recording" window appears on the screen. If you click the "Start recording" button, all actions are saved as screen photos with additional comments in an MHTML file. Windows itself creates the description text. However, your own comments are also possible. Thus, the error is documented very easily.
TIP 2: Lucky who has an emergency DVD
At the end, click "Stop recording", give the file a name and specify the location. To save space, a zip file is created. The MHTML file can be viewed with a browser.
TIP 3: Password bridge
If you do not have an installation DVD, you should definitely have an emergency DVD ready for the case. We recommend that you keep them together in a secure place with the password reset password described in Tip 5.
TIP 4: Rescue anchor repair console
To create the Emergency DVD, click Start / All Programs / Maintenance / System Repair media. Select a burner in your system that will burn the emergency DVD. Otherwise, nothing will be changed.
Insert a blank disc into the drive and click "Create disc". After a short time, the emergency DVD is ready. In any case, make sure that the PC starts with this DVD.
Even a forgotten password to log on to the PC, Windows 7 knows some tools. The simplest is the "passphrase", which appears on the login screen when the password is entered incorrectly for the first time.
However, one should consider this bridge bridge exactly, because the reference is visible to everyone. If you want to use this option, make sure that no one can guess your password. Click Start, and then type "Password" in the search box. In the results window, click the "Create or remove account for account" option.
Select Change Your Own Password, and then type your esque bridge into the Enter Certificate of Conformance field. To save, type the old password, and then click the Change Password button. After the password is written to the disk, click "Next" and "Finish" to complete the process.
If the operating system does not start despite several attempts, one can already sweat the sweat on the forehead. If a backup or repair DVD is missing, good advice is expensive. If you have an installation DVD for Windows 7, the repair console could bring the system back to life.
Start the PC with this DVD. If the window with the installation parameters appears, click "Next" and then "Computer repair options". In the next window, select the Windows installation to be repaired, if you have several installed. Otherwise, only one version will appear.
INFO: Change file views
Files and folders can be displayed in different views in Windows Explorer. If the view is to be changed, the menu or the view symbol is rather cumbersome. It's easier with a mouse with scroll wheel. Press the "Ctrl" key in the relevant directory and rotate the scroll wheel, the view changes.
TIP 5: The password reset disk
Clicking on "Next" detects errors and fixes them. The following window will allow you to set up further repair and inspection measures.
To create a volume that contains the encrypted password when you forget it, type "password" in the search field on the Start menu, and then select "Create password reset disk" in the results box.
HINT 6: Save the position of the icons
Even if "floppy" is present here, a floppy disk is not absolutely necessary as a data carrier. You can just as well use any USB stick. Perhaps an ancient stick with little capacity is slumbering in the drawer of your desk. Because the password is only a few bytes, it is even more useful.
Click "Next" in the "Forgotten Passwords Wizard" and select the correct media, such as the USB Flash Drive, from the "Create password recovery media in the following drive:" menu. After clicking "Next", the current password has to be entered. Click "Next" and "Finish" to create the "password reset".
If you have forgotten your password to log on to the PC, press the "Enter" key twice instead of typing something into the input field. If you have defined a pass-by indicator, it appears under the input field. If this does not help remember, click "Reset password", insert the "password reset" - in our case it is the USB stick - and click "Next" Code>
TIP 7: Modify shortcuts arrow
TIP 8: Recover Deleted File
HINT 9: New folder at the push of a button
TIP 10: USB device no longer wants
In the following window, select the USB flash drive as the volume where the password file is located and click "Next". In the following window you define the new password, click on "Next" and close the process by clicking "Done". Then you can log on with the new password as usual.
Where the icon is located on the desktop, each user is left to their own devices. However, you get used to it in time and is annoyed when the icons are suddenly on a different location in an unusual arrangement on the desktop after changing the graphics resolution.
To restore the usual position, you would normally have to move all the icons with the mouse. However, this is much more comfortable with a program that detects the position of all icons and restores it at the click of a mouse. Iconoid is a program that is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
Attention ! It is important to install the appropriate version for your operating system. If you are unsure, press the "Windows + Pause" key combination. In the window that appears, you will find out which version of the operating system you have installed.
After the program is started, a window with several menu items appears. For the basic settings, we recommend that you activate "Never hide" in the "Hiding" menu under "Icon Hiding". In this way the icons remain visible when Iconoid is started.
Under "Options" with "Export Settings" you save the program options. The positions of the icons can be saved in the "Positions" menu by clicking on "Save Icon Positions (For this resolution)". Click on "Restore Icon Position Now" in the same menu to restore the saved positions.
Most of the icons on the desktop are usually created as shortcuts. To be recognized as such, they get a thick arrow missed. If you are annoyed with this arrow, change or delete it by using the
In Windows XP, a certain entry in the registry brought the desired success. Since Windows 7 is in this way without side effects but no longer possible. However, the small tool "FxVisor" does this job in a very elegant way, but be sure to install the appropriate version (32 or 64 bit) for your operating system!
The user interface offers three options: Arrow, Light Arrow, No Arrow (arrow, small arrow, no arrow). Activate your desired option and confirm with "Apply". In order to see the effect, you must log off and log back into the computer once.
They have cleaned the hard disk and transported all ballast to Nirvana. Now you realize that you need a recently deleted file. Do not panic because Windows 7 has a simple solution: In Windows Explorer, right-click on the folder in which the file was located. In the drop-down menu, select "Restore previous versions".
In the window that appears, locate the date that the missing file was still in the directory, and then double-click it. The contents of the folder will appear.
The lost file can now be inserted with Copy / Paste or moved to the original folder and is available to you again. In order for this to work, system recovery must be active under "System properties / Computer protection" for the relevant partition.
To create a new folder requires several mouse clicks before Windows 7. Since Windows 7, this is easy when you press the keys "Shift + Ctrl + N". Then type the name and press the Enter key.
If a USB device is no longer detected, reinstallation of the associated driver can help. However, the old driver must be removed beforehand. But how, when the device is no longer detected? The "USBDeview" tool (www.nirsoft.net) solves the problem. Load the tool from the web page.
INFO: Disk storage
For Windows to work stably and fast, it is still important to keep enough free space. This also includes the hard disk. It does not matter that today's immense capacities are available. The disk space is still needed to swap space and temporary files. As a fist form, the Windows operating system is always about 15 percent of the hard disk space available as free space.
An installation is not necessary. You start it directly from the directory. To remove a device, start the program in Administrator mode. The interface shows all the USB devices and components of the PC, even those that were installed at some time and are currently not active.
If you want to uninstall a device and driver, right-click on it, activate the item "Uninstall Selected Devices" and confirm the action. After rebooting the PC, connect the USB device to the PC to re-install the driver and the device will work again (hopefully).
