Windows 8.1: All new features compared to Windows 8 presented

We have all the information about Windows 8.1. Just before the download of the preview version is available, the PC magazine reveals all the news. One of the biggest criticisms with Windows 8 is the missing start button – especially for users without touch input devices. Microsoft accepted the wishes of the users and so Windows 8.1 again has the missing button in the lower left corner. However, this does not then, as from Windows 7 accustomed to a Windows 8.1 start menu, but directly to the home screen. In the Taskle properties, you can also set whether to boot Windows 8.1 or to the desktop at the same time.

Windows 8.1: moving backgrounds and app sorting

So far, Windows 8 users have been able to choose between two tile sizes on the start screen. Windows 8.1 comes with two additional sizes. In the mini-view only one icon is displayed, while in the maxi-version there is additional information.

With the update Microsoft gives the users also more freedom to individualize. As a lockscreen background, slide shows with local or SkyDrive images are possible. In addition, calls via Skype can be accepted directly from the lockscreen. The start screen will have the option to use Wallpaper from the desktop view. The app menu also receives an update: If a new app is installed, it no longer appears automatically in the Start menu but only under "All Apps". Here you can choose whether an app is stapled to the start screen. In addition, apps can now be sorted by frequency of usage or installation date.

With the 8.1 update, the complete start screen can be synchronized with the computer in the future. Not only the installed apps are taken over, but also their arrangement. In addition, all apps can now be updated automatically via the Windows Store.

Starting June 26, you can test the Windows 8.1 download (preview version) for free. A little later, the final version will be released - but an exact date is not yet known. For Windows 8 users will not cost the finished version. For Windows 7 or XP users, Windows does not require an extra charge for Windows 8.1 - the price remains the same as for Windows 8.
