Panasonic TX-L65WT600E Ultra-HD TV on the test

It is to be “the new 4K-Bildreferenz”, is already written on the advertising sheet of the Panasonic TX-L65WT600E. The fact that marketing strategists are fast with such statements is well-known, but at Panasonic, where consumer TVs successfully underwent the certification to the studiomitor, one may be eager.

Panasonic TX-L65WT600E: Connections

In the run-up, little was drummed, but until the IFA in Berlin still secrecy was ordered. And a little later, a finished product came onto the market, which is here the test victory in the hand stroke - not with a glorious advantage, but with a few surprises.

The most important innovation for customers is the price reduction of 7,000 euros to 6,000 euros, which reached us shortly before the completion of this test. So we could correct the price-performance-note from "satisfactory" to "good."

Panasonic TX-L65WT600E: 4K content

No surprise was that the dedicated Ultra-HD HDMI input should receive 4K movies at up to 60 frames per second. At the IFA, this was announced almost at the same time as the standard HDMI 2.0, which makes this possible.

Ultra HD - The new generation of television

Ingenious of Panasonic is the installation of a DisplayPort. This computer interface is currently the only established way to transmit ultra-HD movies at 50 or 60 hertz. HDMI source devices with this option are only expected, while any PC with a top graphics card can output 4K @ 60Hz via DisplayPort 1.2a - as is our laboratory-based player. The Panasonic is not only quite safe in the future, but can now be more than any other Ultra HDTVs.

The testers were surprised when checking the playback functions of USB port and SDXC card slot. Photos in stunning sharpness is a must for every 4K-TV. However, the fact that MP4 films are played in Ultra-HD resolution is not described in the data sheet and operating instructions. It worked flawlessly with our test films, which however still not all eventualities of the Ultra-HD technology. In any case, this gives a big plus in our new rating. This could only beat LG through the implementation of HEVC.

Webbrowser and streaming gives Panasonic as Ultra-HD suitable. However, due to the lack of (encrypted) 4K online videocards, which are only in the mind of the early adopters, we can not check this function yet.

Especially due to the perfect integration of a double quad-tuner, Panasonics top models have made a good ground against Samsung, the market leader this year. With the best recording functions, the broadcasts also into the DLNA intranet or send on a tablet, one comes with the demanding ones well. A smartphone / tablet app, which even helps with calibration, does not hurt as synonymous. These settings include professional isf (ccc) modes, which, in combination with the THX seal, will probably bring all known image quality institutions into the boat.

In fact, the TXL65WT600E delivers the most natural and detailed picture of this test. The most important thing here is the high-scaling of Full HD as the currently most used option. Here, the color resolution of the source is unlike the LG and the Samsung fully developed. Then more image optimizers come so delicate and filigree to the point, that they can draw roughly round fonts nicely, without causing them to be imposed.

Practice: Movies in Ultra HD

It is probably synonymous with the restrained, HDTV-standard colors, which do not want to radiate subtleties, that the resulting image so sharp and homogeneous. Restrictions are only available from the side of the view, or when the film moves too much uncoordinated. Then the smoothing of motion comes out of the kick.

Conclusion

On the other hand, the control of the backlight for image optimization is very well solved, called Panasonic "Local Dimming Pro". It gives the TX-L65WT600E very good black values by overall quite dark darkening. Due to the low, but kinogerechte light power the giant TV falls under the energy efficiency class "A". Ultra-HD feeds blur the benefits of good image processing.

The sharpness impression is better for all test participants than it could be differentiated at a normal seat distance at all. The only difference between the Panasonic TX-L65WT600E and the Panasonic TX-L65WT600E

The Panasonic delivers the most natural and sharpest, but not the best picture in every respect. The sound is rather thin, discreet and imprecise, as a result of renouncing the thick housing base of other models.

Nevertheless, the Panasonic overall winner is due to the comprehensive equipment with double tuner, but above all, because Samsung is allowed with the crucial picture quality Patzer.
