Dietmar Nick: In recent years, we have successively expanded our business with managed document services and corresponding solutions. In the meantime, more than 20 employees work in the MDS area alone in the United States. The European Global Services Division, which focuses on consulting solutions and services, has also been massively boosted. In addition, we have created new software alliances at European and national level. With the renaming of KYOCERA Document Solutions Inc., we are bringing this strategic focus, and thus our range of efficient document management solutions, even more transparent to the customer.
Business & IT: From KYOCERA Mita became KYOCERA Document Solutions. What is the background?
Dietmar Nick: The customer benefits primarily from a broad portfolio of document management solutions. This includes, in addition to a corresponding hardware package, the right software. Thus, in almost all companies it is about improving processes and reducing costs. Document management can be an essential lever, but many people are not aware of this. Here, together with our partners, we want to raise awareness. With our holistic approach of KYOCERA Managed Document Services, we can optimize processes and reduce costs in this area by up to 30 percent. We also consistently carry this message further with our new company name.
What impact does this have on customers?
KYOCERA has an indirect sales model. What is the role of retailers?
How to print from the network
Dietmar Nick: We have set ambitious growth targets for the coming years. In the context of a five-year plan, we plan to increase our sales to a total of EUR 500 million. Our partners are essential in achieving this goal. We want to grow together - and this continuously. To this end, we have already adapted our partner program last year. We now offer cross-channel, pass-through support, with sectors and target markets as well as professional services in the foreground. In total, KYOCERA Document Solutions the United States has invested nine million euros in its new partner program.
Managed print services are currently on everyone's lips. What about KYOCERA offers?
Dietmar Nick: With KYOCERA Managed Document Services (MDS), we offer a comprehensive range of services covering all areas of output management. In this way, we first analyze the existing infrastructure as well as the specific requirements of the customer. By systematically analyzing the collected data, we then develop an individual optimization strategy together with our specialist dealers. After the implementation, a continuous management ensures that everything is interlocked perfectly. The key advantage of KYOCERA MDS lies in the flexible module structure from which the customer can order the relevant modules. Here, KYOCERA offers the most flexible system that allows us to meet individual requirements optimally.
Dietmar Nick: The economy is increasingly aware that resource-conserving products and solutions have an entrepreneurial relevance. Accordingly, the topic of green IT is still very relevant in the ICT sector. With our patented ECOSYS technology, KYOCERA is ideally placed on the market. Thanks to the use of long-life components and a unique drumming technology, which is the only consumable material in the world, our ECO laser printers and multifunctional systems are particularly resource-conserving. Because only toner needs to be replenished, waste is reduced by up to 75 percent compared to conventional machines. This also affects the printing costs, which are the lowest in the respective class for the ECOSYS systems. With our PRINT GREEN program, we also offer our customers the opportunity to compensate for the CO2 emissions of their KYOCERA systems by investing in a climate-relevant project.
Dietmar Nick: The printer market is experiencing a shift from output towards input. Accordingly, the business with solutions and services offers enormous potential. According to a recent study by the market research institute Photizo, the market share will account for about a quarter of the market by 2017.
SMEs in the United States also recognized their need for managed document services. According to a recent IDC study, in which 200 companies were surveyed, every second medium-sized company plans to improve its output landscape within the next two years. Through our extensive software portfolio, our economic printing and copying systems, and our excellent service, I am convinced that we will play an important role here and achieve our sales targets.
