Part 2: Comparison test HDTV recorder with hard disk

Humax iCord HD

This device has already been waiting for a comparison test in our editorial team for some months. Its absolutely sophisticated concept and its high-quality implementation make it very difficult for the competition. And in fact, the oldest participant in the test asserts itself against all other devices. The iCord HD is the ultimate test drive for the iCord HD, including its easy handling even of complex processes. It is based on beautifully designed, generously laid out menus as well as meaningfully sorted menus, which are a pleasure to try out the various options. For this purpose, a remote control is used which, as a prime example of good ergonomics and pressure, should influence the engineers of other manufacturers.

The iCord double-ended is particularly easy to set up, from engine control to the latest single-cable solution. During operation, stations can be stored in favorite lists. He even remembers automatically even more popular programs. Such skillful details and detailed solutions, such as, for example, Lip-Sync, which makes its concept appear to be particularly mature.

The fact that the Humax is also the most beautiful device of the test field, one could argue about it - but no one disputes, but each respondent feels the noble shiny black with its ornamental chromium strip as a very pleasant appearance

Qualitatively the picture difference in HD between all the tested boxes barely noticeable anyway over HDMI. Normal SD programs over Scart / S-video or composite do not go into our assessment, because only one purpose would be connected recorders and for this we have the integrated hard drives. The iCord HD shows a balanced HD image via YUV and filters high-scaled SD movies - similar to the Dreambox DM 800. Therefore, old programs appear to have fewer artifacts than other receivers. Even Humax copies willingly to external hard disks, but it should be noted that their file system FAT32 basically no HDTV recording in one piece, so as a file larger 4 GB can manage. A LAN function will be updated as in the case of Homecast.
