Sony KDL-46HX755 review

No sooner have you recovered from the shock of switching off the analogue satellite signal, there comes the next hammer: Who believes that the current TV devices with triple HD tuner future-proof, must now be new facts. The magic “2” behind the digital reception channels DVB-S (satellite), DVB-T (terrestrial) and DVB-C (cable) is threatening to make old tuners incompatible with new modulation methods.

While DVB-S2 was already associated with the introduction of HDTV, the other reception channels in the United States were left conventional. DVB-T2 is already running in some European countries, which is why many TVs have already secretly supported it.

Sony KDL-46HX755: Sufficient connectors

The fact that DVB-C2, the next generation of cable TV technology, but already ready for use, amazes even professionals. And that in the Sony TV tested here as in all its big new brothers already the right tuner is integrated, is a real surprise. DVB-C is not planned to be replaced by DVB-C and thus a "digital shutdown", but as both systems can coexist, new video-on-demand services could be depicted with the improved system, which increases the data capacity of the DVB-C Cable by more than half.

Sony KDL-46HX755: setup, operation and image

Considering that the Sony is significantly cheaper than its Panasonic Panasonic and LG tested here, one wonders what the Japanese developers have renounced, and you have been looking for a long time. On sockets probably hardly, because four HDMI, two USB and some analog connections are generously sized. And also WLAN including Wi-Fi Direct is expected from more expensive models.

Sony KDL-46HX755: Processing

Also for interactivity the Sony provides enough room. There is a lot of entertainment available in the DLNA home network as well as worldwide: Video Unlimited, Music Unlimited, Sony Entertainment Network, Widgets, Skype (one camera missing) and a free browser are available. When accessing social networks, the current TV picture is scaled down so that you can interact in peace. You can also control this Sony with an app from your smartphone - especially recommended for entering text.

Quad-tuner, the three digital DVB-HD variants in the future-proof variant, support of CI-Plus modules, recording to a USB hard disk, 3D - the equipment really does not leave anything out. However, if you use them intensively, you will soon notice that the modern menu handling is slower and the speed of the additional services is also significantly lower than in the expensive top TVs with dual-core processors

Very well with Sony the classical attributes first-time (transmitter programming) and the daily handling for the actual television. In addition, attention has been paid to the best image quality and the high-quality methods for the preparation of poor image sources. The picture quality is still the number one shopping criterion and a lot is offered here.

Sony's LCD panel is illuminated by edge LEDs, which, however, vary little depending on the picture content, in order to increase the contrast. The is native with 800: 1 already considerable. Only in the dark room could the black level be better. The light sensor nicely reduces the backlight to a third of the intensity in the evening.

Regarding the indication of the refresh rate, one can no longer trust any manufacturer. We rely on our high-speed camera at 1,200 frames per second, which at Sony's setting for soft motion flow three intermediate images documented, so real 200 Hz. Optionally a weaker active smoothing is combined with some variants of the LED-Blinken, up to Impuls: Bei This variant flicker short light cycles as strongly as a picture tube. Everyone will find their favorite look.

The setting options are ambitious professional, but everything has meaningful effects on the picture impression. In the Kinomodus, our test pattern was extremely standardized - praiseworthy.

Back to the previously mentioned austerity, the effects of which we have not yet felt. Thus, it is mainly design and processing where the red pencil was set up. Noble metal on the comparatively wide frame we look in vain, and the clever pedestal is a matter of taste. But what really counts is the good picture, is not it?
