Windows 7: Microsoft reminds of support end on January 14, 2020

Trust screen for millions of users: The Windows 7 desktop. Now it’s time to say goodbye.

Three years before the final support end of Windows 7, Microsoft reminds users and businesses to move in time. The Redmonder want to prevent a scenario like that at its time in Windows XP. This appeared in 2001, but it did not land on the siding until the beginning of 2017. XP users and IT departments had provided a high level of distribution until the end, thus exposing themselves to unnecessary security risks and increased compatibility issues >

Windows 7 appeared, in 2009. As early as 2017, the "basic support" for Windows 7, which brought new functions, ended. This means that since that time, only important security updates for download by Windows Update have been released. Microsoft is continuing to do this by 2020, after which it is final. Then at the latest, users have to assume that Microsoft does not close current security gaps, and that its own data for cybercriminals are "ready for launch". Security gaps are rapidly spreading, and matching viruses, trojans, and other malware are virtually instant, ready to attack.

Windows 10 would be the next logical choice for users and businesses who continue to use Microsoft programs; Windows 8 would still be suitable, but it will soon end with the support, Microsoft announces the end of the "basic support" at the beginning of 2018. In 2023, Windows 8 then meets the fate of Windows 7. At Windows 10, the deadlines for basic and extended support end two years later. In Windows 10, however, there will be no further successor at this stage, and upcoming large updates will extend the corresponding time windows.
