Excursion: Videotelefon on Flat TV
Skype is the world's most popular service for audiovisual Internet communications. Recently, Microsoft acquired the company for over $ 6 billion and wants to integrate the features directly into Windows.
Skype builds free video or audio connections among its members via internet, also text messages are possible. Meanwhile, not only are laptops popular Skype devices. The software has even been adapted for smartphones and is used in millions of computers every day for cheap intercontinental video telephones.
An Internet-enabled television needs only "some" computing power for the encoding including the appropriate Skype software - and of course a webcam. This is quite expensive for the current providers Panasonic and Samsung unfortunately.
This is not only due to the fact that it offers HD resolution, but also by the fact that four intelligent microphones are installed, which can be "targeted" to the far-off spectator. And this is what you need for a decent hands-free operation in the large living room.
Excursion: HbbTV - more meaningful than Internet on TV
TV and the Internet: These are actually two worlds that have existed for a long time, without touching great. The current solutions for web content on the TV go in the right direction because they focus on multimedial added value. The concept that ultimately the device manufacturer is responsible for the contents and they look different in every TV, is however not purposeful.
The new standard HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband Television) hopefully soon creates a common basis, because every good TV should be able to display in the same way additional content, which the TV channels to suit the program. In the final phase of the implementation of this standard there are still some minor conflicts of interest.
