Phase One Capture One Pro is one of the classics among the RAW converters. In the meantime, a powerful image management is part of the range of functions. As Phase One is well-known for its professional camera systems in medium format, it is hardly surprising that version 7 of the in-house RAW converter is completely tailored to professional photographers.
RAW converter with professional claim
The new version of the Phase One Capture One Pro not only supports its own camera systems, but all cameras that record RAW. The software is available for Windows from Vista and Mac OSX from 10.6.8 at the price of 230 euros. In addition to RAW and DNG, Capture One Pro 7 can also process files in the formats JPEG and TIFF. Metadata reads and writes the program in modern XMP format. A slideshow function is missing.

The gray program interface, with its numerous symbols, looks a bit confusing at first - but this is after a short familiarization phase. In twelve tabs, the vendor can easily find all functions, for example, under the terms "library", "color", "detail" to "metadata" or "output" >

As is the case for a modern RAW converter with professional requirements, both a softproof view and a print output are on board. In addition, the software works on several monitors. Studio studios in particular benefit from the so-called tethering function. This allows the software to control connected cameras of the professional class and import the images directly into Capture One. It is also possible to import files onto memory cards or hard disks into the catalog. The import dialog provides all the necessary functions, such as the choice of the file name, the location, the administration of copyright and metadata.
The automatic correction of lens flaws is no longer only possible with lenses from Zeiss, but a whole range of Canon, Nikon and Sigma lenses as well as a few other manufacturers are supported. Alternatively, Capture One allows manual correction, for example, by freely selectable information on focal length and aperture, or on sliders. The color correction can be done by users in two ways: either with a simple color circle or with the color editor, in which individual color areas can be specifically controlled. There is also a separate tab for skin tones - although even the basic adjustment of skin tones is very pleasant. The same is true for the brightness correction: the adjustment with controllers is understandable for everyone, but experts work with the gradation curve. This is even available for single RGB colors. When working with the parameters, the software always allows a brief consideration before the settings are applied - this makes other programs on the test server with quad core processor better.
As is usual in this class, Capture One also controls the selective correction using drawn or gradient masks. Tools for correcting exposure, sharpness, clarity, moire and the color editor are available. Patch removes the software flawlessly, but red eyes have to be manually corrected by the user via the selective correction.
