Whatsapp: Blue hooks reveal when messages were read

Whatsapp continues to worry about the introduction of the blue checkmarks: At first, the Facebook subsidiary promised improvement, but now it turned out that Whatsapp reveals more information about the chat partner. So far, most Whatsapp users have been annoyed by the fact that the blue hooks show when a sent message has been read by the recipient. Now, however, the chat app also shows when exactly the addressee has read the message.

For Apple devices, the message must only be wiped to the left to reveal a sub-menu that displays the logged times. Alternatively, the message can also be pressed longer to find the time in the "Info" menu item. Android users need to tap the message and select the "i" in the circle. Both the time of delivery and the time when the chat partner opened the message is noted.

While Android users can at least disable the blue Whatsapp hooks, the time settings on both Apple and Android devices can not be turned off. Instead of pulling consequences from the protest against the blue hooks, Whatsapp scratches even more on the privacy of the users. The timeline function probably came with the latest update and has not been noticed since most users do not check their messages.

However, the company announced that the new Whatsapp encryption will make the app vulnerable to the outside. With a new encryption introduced in November, news should be completely unreadable even to security authorities in the data line, Whatsapp and Facebook itself - so far at least for Android.
