Windows 10: Build 9926 gets big patch KB3036140

The Windows 10 Technical Preview has been extended to include more consumer-friendly features, and a larger patch with some bug fixes is not available within two weeks after the release of January build 9926. This is mainly due to errors that occur in typical user actions. Also the new Xbox live interface did not work immediately. In the support area, Microsoft mentions Xbox Live games, which require a login with the XBL account, in the KB3036140 patch. They did not start and indicated that an application was required.

Then there were problems with the Windows 10 start menu, which did not open soon after the setup and the Windows Store did not link to the quick start bar. If a smart card was installed on the device used, users could not log on. An error (0x8E5E05E2) appeared when the user wanted to install apps. Installing apps from the store could also lead to a system crash. Internet Explorer responded sluggishly when the user opened a new tab, and the settings constantly reported the availability of new builds. If the user tried to download it, the error 0x80246017 appeared.

This includes problems that are reported by more savvy users and which Microsoft has now fixed. Virtual PCs lost their connection to their virtual disks, for example, there was an error message (0x80200065) when creating virtual machines or managing HyperV hosts. If users used multiple monitors in conjunction with certain graphics drivers, the system's idle mode did not work. Screens also caused difficulties when switching between portrait mode and landscape mode. Users of the remote desktop function complained of crashes when you played video or other fast-moving graphics during a remote connection.

Microsoft also fixed a bug that showed the end user license agreement during installation. This includes improvements for the migration of virtual machines, system stability and data security as well as measures to increase the battery performance of mobile devices. The current patch KB3036140 for the Technical Preview of Windows 10 is available through Windows Update.
