The Koreans from LG are pioneers in Ultra-HD. They were the first panel to find their way into a sales product. At that time without the available UHD content was the argument for the higher resolution that finally 3D Blu-rays with the light polarization glasses could be viewed flicker-free with high luminosity without sharpness loss. Astonishing that just this feature was omitted in the LG 55UF7709. This makes it a real bargain, as the LG 55UF7709 model, which also offers the third dimension, costs five hundred more.
Picture and sound
For modern people who want more than just watching television, LG is currently taking the leadership position in the operating economy. Last year, the operating system WebOS was started, this year it is running smoothly. The entire system is designed for mouse operation, the control takes over the new Magic Remote. It converts movements of the hand into a cursor on the screen and accepts voice commands. And now, despite its lightness, it has now been expanded to include all the key pushbuttons that classic TV requires: ten-key buttons, color and drive buttons. After a short period of familiarization, you are much faster at the destination than with the old arrow keys, especially with digital add-ons.
With the hardware equipment, current TV models are approaching more and more. Three HDMI jacks are compulsory, just like USB, where the powerful 3.0 is selected. Network and WLAN bind the devices to the digital media, the devices of analog friends find connection via scart, component or video - but everything is simple. CI-plus 1.3 for Pay TV is just as common as a headphone output and the optical digital sound connection. Since the operation of headphones seems to be really in demand, LG built a separate volume control.
Software is LG with Miracast, DLNA client and, of course, the recording function of Free TV on an external USB disk in the green area. Thanks to state-of-the-art decoder chips, LG is even anticipating the reception of ultra-HD broadcasters via satellite and HDTV broadcasters via DVB-T2 - if the standards develop technically as it currently crystallizes
For the fact that the LG is obviously backlit with LED light from the lower edge, which becomes very warm, its illumination of the upper half is excellent. Only down below is it hapert. Local dimming is logically limited to a few vertical strips and works well. Nevertheless, the moderate black level is the biggest criticism. In the shootout to the dark Samsung and the pitch black Panasonic falls well. This changes when looking at the image from a side view angle only. Then the faces of the competitors are pale - with envy on the IPS panel.
Regarding the remaining parameters of a perfect image, LG is no nonsense. If the color space of our sample after the unpacking still shows measurable deviations from the standard, these can be corrected by a specialist with isf calibrator license to the finest - just like gamma curve and gray scale. A medium-class TV with professional ambitions.
If the color space is set to "native", hardly any enlargement is shown. The superb colors of future UHD media will have to be charged by the LG as well as the other participants of this test. The same is true with HDR. The maximum brilliance of the beautifully economical panel is limited. For this, an "A +" is unusually good for the power cable for UHDTVs.
Lesetipp: Optimal settings for LG TVs
The fact that our Ultra-HD reproductions with 60Hz and glass-clear meter-sharp image details give one the breath, we have already almost accustomed. Apart from the high brightness of the Panasonic, the candidates take this time quite little. But the middle class has also caught up with upscaling and image processing. LG is much cleaner than last year. Who can do without 3D, gets a lot for the money.
