OLED patent dispute between Samsung and LG, production lags

The future in the display market belongs to OLED, at it and the underlying big money believe at least the South Korean display giants Samsung and LG. Samsung has currently filed lawsuit to declare seven LG patents on OLED technology as void.


The allegation is allegedly that these are "trivial patents without recognizable innovations". Interestingly, LG was suing Samsung in late September. It also turned seven patents, which Samsung allegedly hurt. A sales ban for the "sAMOLED" gadgets Samsung Galaxy S3, Note and the Galaxy Tablet with seven inches was required. Whether it is the same patent currently defendant Samsung is unknown.


The dispute between Samsung and LG has lasted longer. In April Samsung challenged the competitor LG Industriespionage. Eleven Samsung employees were arrested after disclosing secret details regarding the structuring of large OLED displays. As an incentive for the alleged acts of the accused, up to 170,000 US dollars flowed from a "local competitor". According to Samsung, LG was the most important. The judges gave Samsung right, but LG did not recognize the verdict. In the following, Samsung demanded damages.

The electronics giants Samsung and LG argue about the potentially high profits, which can come by a dominance in the OLED sector. The advantages compared to the predecessor technologies include a shorter reaction time, higher energy efficiency, higher viewing angle independence, lower weight and lower production costs - at least in the future.
