Part 3: Virus Scanners: Digital Worm Therapy

The program interface of the AntiVirenKit 2004 is clear, the presets are practical. However, the scanner does not scan all the files, but instead determines the file type (without reverting to the file ending).

A special feature in the watch allows to search archives only to a certain size. The BitDefender engine is working next to Kaspersky. The e-mail check works well with POP3 and IMAP accounts, but has a checkmark: it is executed as a local proxy so that all e-mail accounts have to be reconfigured. In the test we had to do the setup by hand. And with the e-mail module of T-Online, the AntiVirenKit remains outside, because this program does not support a proxy. Especially for Outlook, the tool has a plug-in for e-mail checking. The virus screening is outstanding and has almost no weaknesses. The victory in this category costs the AntiVirenKit the misfires with dialers, only two out of 20 is too little. When removing macrovides, the AntiVirenKit has problems with embedded objects: PowerPoint documents did not work. Also the archive support is not quite perfect: Although the scanner found all viruses in the test, the report caused only one infection per archive.
