Our three candidates pursue different hobbies: Jürgen Döring goes on a rafting trip, Emanuel Fuchs likes to fly his glider in the Austrian Alps and Rene Joest rides a motorbike or mountain bike and likes to ride. The candidates had the task to use the Bullet 4S extensively in their sporting activities. They should then complete a questionnaire and write down their experiences.
Overall, our readers enjoyed the Rollei Action Cam positively. In particular the picture quality was convincing. But also the robust housing pleased. In the case of the mounting possibilities, the camera according to our three readers could offer some more flexibility. It was also criticized that no external microphone can be connected, which is however due to the design and the additional housing.
Interesting for us were the answers to the question "Which function would you like?" On the one hand a status LED on the remote control as well as a removable suction cup holder for smooth surfaces was asked. Also a Wi-Fi connection to smartphones or tablets is a desirable feature for users of the Action Cam.
Even when unpacking the extremely attractive packaging, I noticed the cool minimalist design and the very good processing quality of the Bullet 4S from Rollei. But always when it was on it, the Action Cam failed on the whole line. Especially in adrenaline-saturated situations, the functionality and usability of such an action cam should be a priority.
What good is a high-tech action cam in the miniature format, if you can not even rely on the respective standard functions (recording / pause)? And / or the cam depends on various key combinations for obvious reasons and can only be brought back to life by a hard reset? This approach is not possible in all situations.
I will give the Bullet 4S a new chance in our summer vacation under not so stressful conditions to prove oneself in activities like wakeboarding and kitesurfing. After all, everyone deserved a second chance.
I had slight disturbances in the sailplane - when activating the engine. Here, however, very extreme high frequencies are also used, which can be used by a great many electronic devices. Was also the case only at the start of the engine the case and also not further disturbing. Movies can be up to three hours, so more than enough and thus also ideal for watching dogs in the home if you are not at home.
The picture quality I have at 720p / 60 as the best felt. Here you have a pleasantly quiet picture, which in its sharpness is not far from the Full HD resolution according to my sensation.
Five HD camcorders in the test
At 1080p it is naturally a little sharper. However, the sharpness of stationary cameras or the stagher in this segment is missing in places.
The full HD camera Rollei Bullet 4S is a very successful Action Cam, which must not be hidden from the big and especially the big competitor.
In the standard version everything is ready to go. There is even a microSD that is missing at most of the competitors. The first impression of camera and accessories is good, all components look great. The Bullet itself is of its dimensions including TFT almost a cube with a length of more than 6 cm.
Charging the battery takes a long time. It is therefore advisable to take care of a second book, otherwise you might miss the best of the film day. The supplied brackets should be for bicycles, helmets and surfaces, but the camera can not be securely attached. The smaller mount can only be glued, which seems to me to be insecure for such an expensive device.
The recordings are sharp and amazingly color intensive, without overshooting. Even with fast light changes, the camera does well. Only with overly rugged camera shots - presumably through an electronic image stabilizer - an image effect is created, which is most reminiscent of filming over a hot surface: a kind of wave formation over the entire image.
