Whatsapp: Rewe and Lidl vouchers are a fake

WhatsApp is once again the platform for fraud attempts. This time it’s about false Rewe vouchers.


A new fraud scheme makes WhatsApp unsafe. This time news is in circulation, which with vouchers for Rewe or Lidl in the amount of up to 100 euro lure. The presentation of the message suggests to the user that he has already won the voucher and is only one click away from receiving the promised sum. In doing so, one gets into the hands of data collectors. This is reported by Mimikama, an association for the elucidation of Internet abuse.


The fraud is done according to a specific pattern: the user is prompted to follow a link. On the website you were sent to, you have to answer a few harmless questions. But the voucher is still not available. You are prompted to send the message to eight contacts. Thus, the fraud scheme is increasingly circulating. Afterwards a forwarding on a profit form, the promised voucher is also at this point not within reach. Instead, they are asked to participate in the contest. The user is requested to provide personal data.

The transmission of your own data then leads to advertising calls and advertising e-mails. Already in November last year, fraudsters had tried to trap WhatsApp users with fake Emirates tickets. In this case, it was a trick, with the fraud victims at the end of a news subscription, for which money was debited. This can threaten the spoof coupons for Rewe and Lidl as well.
