Microsoft wants to replace names "Nokia" and "Windows Phone"

A trend towards simpler names is evident in Microsoft. While it was until recently relatively safe that the new Windows release will bear the number 9, there are now various indications for a radical simplification of the names. As we reported, the new Windows 9 could entirely dispense with a name addition. Marketing considerations may be decisive, after all, Apple with “iOS” and Google with “Android” also names without additions.

The same trend now appears to continue in the mobile sector. According to an internal Microsoft paper from which the blog "Geek on Gadgets" reports, the brand name "Nokia" is to be omitted completely and "Windows Phone" will be called "Windows". After that, the Lumia 830 and Lumia 730 devices, most recently introduced at the IFA, will be the last ones to appear with the branding "Nokia", after that only "Windows Lumia" should be on the smartphones Code>

This unification in the naming is also consistent with the announcement that the new operating system should provide a unified desktop and mobile platform.
