Titanfall 2 does not have it easy. And this is not the game, but rather the - quite ambitious - release date. This was and lies between the releases of Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, two genre sizes, which could be quite dangerous for the Titanfall 2 sales figures. Electronic Arts is self-confident. Authorized?

For the first time in a Titanic case, a single-player campaign. The first part was a pure multiplayer title. Although the focus is still on this, the campaign is more than just a vile twist. Ok, with respect to the story, we have to make a few concessions. It looks like from the retort. The same is true for the characters with which we hardly identify.

In short, the industrial conglomerate IMC is fighting against the resistance group Militia. It is about valuable resources on the planet Typhon. We play Cooper, who has to prove himself as a pilot novice and is supposed to heat the IMC. So far, so flat. It's a good thing for the production to be done. For how Cooper interacts with its Titan "BT", which is already entertaining. The two protagonists provide nice word-fighting.


Playfully, the singleplayer campaign fits anyway. We bounce, climb and shoot through the levels, which are quite diversified and sometimes challenge us - small puzzles included. As already known from the multiplayer mode of the predecessor, we also use the verticality of the gameplay. Wallruns? No problem. They are an integral part of the game.


What is also refreshing is that we do not blunt opponents. The battles are well placed and packed with highlights. This includes tough mech battles. The campaign lasts only about six hours, but they know how to convince them. Just because of the single-player, but you do not buy a Titanfall 2. Therefore, we now swing into the multiplayer corner.


Satte 12 game modes are available in Titanfall 2. Madness. A highlight is the 5-vs-5 mode "Bounty Hunt", in which we get rid of the AI-controlled opponents and bribe them money. We pay this on a virtual bank. The team that has collected the most coal at the end wins. But there is one thing: the opponents can take away the moss! And the singular spots are fiercely contested. This is the right thing to do. Other modes listen to the name Capture the Flag, Last Titan Standing, Amped Hardpoint, T-Day, Variety Pack and so on. Each mode is fun, but some are only the variant of another. So there are 12 modes, but not all are basic.


The maps are just as varied as the modes. They offer us numerous alternative routes and always use the verticality of Titanfall 2. So it is also times to look upwards, in order to discover opponents. Titanic veterans feel at home here.


Particularly critical is the balance for a large multiplayer title like Titanfall. And the developers have done surprisingly well. Here no one feels overwhelmed or disadvantaged. This can be seen as a masterpiece, because Titanfall 2 offers a variety of systems that want to be coordinated. There are the Pilots and Titan classes, different weapons, boosts and abilities. We did not find any inconsistencies in the test. Each player receives various bonuses and mali, depending on the pilot or Titan choice. These are excellently balanced in comparison with the opponents. Of course, it is essential for the players to adjust to the advantages and disadvantages. It does not matter to a team when a player with his Scorch-Titan tries to do something at a long distance. This must be used entirely differently than, for example, a Legion Titan, which can both plug in and distribute.


Titanfall 2 offers both single-player and multiplayer fans a great action-spectacle. Although the story in the single-player mode hardly attracts someone behind the stove, it is so varied that it is worth more than a glance. The multiplayer mode is a force. The balancing fits and the maps thought out.
