Sandisk: New CF card with 256 GB memory

With 256 gigabytes of capacity, the new SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash cards are the CF card with the currently highest capacity. It reaches the specifications of the “Video Performance Guarantee” VPG-65, which stands for the 65 megabyte writing speed. The transfer speeds should be as high as 160 megabytes per second.

The cards are provided with an RTV silicone coating for the professional area, which should provide protection against vibration and vibration. The temperature differences between -10 degrees and 85 degrees Celsius should not affect the performance. A free download of the Rescue Pro backup software is provided for one year.

The other SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash cards, with capacities of 16, 32, 64, and 128 GB, will also be faster and are now to provide read speeds of up to 160 megabytes per second and write speeds of up to 150 megabytes per second The same Video Performace Guarantee. The SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash cards will cost between 119 Euro (16 GB) and 1.868 Euro (256 GB / including VAT), depending on the capacity.

With the new CompactFlash cards, Sandisk is also targeting the new camcorders with 4K video recordings. But the high-speed data rates of 4K-video are likely to hit their limits, so it's quite a bit faster. The 120 gigabyte SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 offers a reading speed of up to 450 megabytes per second (3000X ) And write speeds of up to 350 megabytes per second (2333X).

For example, the transfer of a 100 GB file from a CompactFlash card at 90 MB per second takes almost 20 minutes. With the new SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 memory card, transmission takes only four minutes at 450 MB per second.

The new CFast cards are based on a specification of the CompactFlash Association, where SanDisk, Canon, Arri and Codex are the first integrators and driving forces to be named.

The manufacturer of professional film cameras Arri will be the first company to use CFast 2.0 as a recording medium in the new Arri Amira camera. Canon is also committed to the new standard as a supporter of the CFast 2.0 standard in the development of new cameras, presumably in the 4K segment. The SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 memory cards will be available in capacities of 60 and 120 GB. SanDisk does not list prices yet.
