Watch movies for free at Netzkino und Co.

The video-on-demand business is primarily focused on two types of offerings: single-shot lending or buying movies, providers such as iTunes, Google Play Video, and flat rate video stores such as Watchever, Sky Snap, or Amazon Prime Instant Video. Play free movies from the web? That sounds more like illegal exchange exchanges. Not quite. Meanwhile, a whole series of portals stream films, for which the viewer does not have to pay himself. The offers are usually financed through advertising.

Netzkino.de: First the advertising, then the pleasure

Probably the most successful free online video store in the United States is Netzkino. She shows quite demanding films, which are usually already a few years old. A specialty of Netzkino are also really old ham, which neither run with the paid competition nor on television.

Also interesting is

A lot of titles with well-known actors such as Ingrid Bergmann and Gregory Peck in "I fight for you" (1945), Elizabeth Taylor in "Our Life with Father" (1947), Kirk Douglas ("For a Handful of Money" Or Burt Lancaster ("Valley of Revenge", 1952). Also old master John Wayne invites with more than twenty western classics to the re-seeing.

Computers, apps and smart TVs

Among the more recent titles are "We need to talk about Kevin" with Tilda Swinton, "Knight Moves" with Christopher Lambert, "Silent Days in Clichy" (1970) or the oscar-nominated Norwegian film "Elling" from 2001

YouTube channel as an alternative for smart TVs

A separate Arthaus section in the film catalog also lists titles, which are also currently on display at Amazon Prime Instant Video or Watchever in the flat rate - such as "Antares - Studies of Love" or "God bless America". The library currently contains around 2,500 films, which are worth exploring even the most famous names.

Many titles are also good for a well-groomed, surprising trashfilm evening - or tell you something like "Der Calamari-Wrestler" (Japan, 2004) or "Russian Transporter" with Vladimir Jepifantsev (Russia 2008) something? Just. Quite honestly, I have not counted the films individually, let alone seen. But with 352 dramas, 185 titles under the keyword "Spasskino" and still 113 films in HD resolution as well as many more genres, Netzkino is certainly not a pure niche provider.

You can see the films on the Netzkino website, on mobile devices with Android, Apple and Windows operating system as well as on Smart-TV apps on devices of Samsung and LG. The handling is always similar: one searches for a movie and starts it - a registration is not necessary. Before the film run one to three commercials each with up to half a minute of play time. They can not be fast-forwarded or skipped, but they are closed with advertising.

Practice: Watch TV series on the tablet

In the Praxistest, there were never more than two spots before the filmstart. There are no commercial breaks during the film, you can also jump back and forth at will. A bit annoying I found that the advertising is usually much louder than the film itself, similar to the private television. In addition to the commercials on the catalog pages of Netzkino.de, quite a lot of advertising banners are distributed - mainly in the form of Google ads.

On offer are films of any kind, including horror shocks and other FSK-18 titles. The protection of minors on the website works very simply: non-youth-free films can only be seen between 11 pm and 6 am. In the iPad app, however, this restriction did not exist - apparently the network makers believe that only adults can afford a tablet and even apps can download.

The picture quality of movies in SD resolution is changeable. It ranges from strongly flickering and noisy pictures in older films to good streaming quality. HD movies sometimes have almost perfect pictures - as seen in the HD Horrorthriller "Jeepers Creepers". The author "We need to talk about Kevin" also offered a very good HD quality up to a resolution of 1080p. Special feature: However, it was not strewn over the own player of Netzkino.de, but by YouTube streaming on the Netzkino side.

However, YouTube also counts on the dissemination concept of network makers. In its own YouTube channel, about 1,500 films from the Netzkino catalog can be seen - many of them also in HD resolution up to 720p or even 1080p. Thus, Netzkino can also be used on smart TVs without its own app - it is best to subscribe to the network channel and thus automatically display all the novelties on the personal YouTube homepage.

Practice: Apps for video streaming

Online video casinos with free offer

YouTube is also a good place for free movies. Beside Netzkino show still more offerer partly more well-known, partly also very special food. YouTube lists free movies in a superior channel with a German-language homepage, which you can reach via youtube.de/movies. Here you can quickly find other suppliers such as CiNENET.de or weloadtv. Most of the feature films on YouTube also start with advertising in advance, show partly also between spots or dazzle at least ever again times banners.

Even in official online video stores you can always find free films. Maxdome, for example, has a small section on the Movies homepage, which lists 30 free titles. Some of them, however, are also free previews of current Kinofilme or "Making Of" videos of current rental titles. But there are about two dozen free-length films - mostly TV productions.

Conclusion

The online video store Kinderkino.de has a quite extensive free section with series, children's films and even some beautiful animal-documentaries. As with Netzkino, here too are advertised to the start commercials - only here just for Lego building kits rather than skin creams or cars. The parallels are no coincidence: Netzkino.de and Kinderkino.de are part of a company group and have the same managing director.

You can not expect to see the latest Hollywood pearls in free online video stores, but there is not just a lot of garbage. The business model seems to work at Netzkino.de thanks to a large number of users. 50 million films are due to be released in 2013 - there is a lot of advertising money. Good for the viewer, because here is the quality, and the films can be played on quite a lot of devices. There is less advertising than on private television.
