In energy efficiency, all test candidates are relatively modest, except for the plasma TV. With an average power requirement of 230 watts, it needs significantly more energy than the LCD models. Philips and Toshiba are also quite economical with around 100 watts, if the size of the screen is taken as the basis.
From the laboratory
The Sharp is particularly economical because, with a 60-inch panel, it requires an average of only 84 watts, as is the LG with 77 watts at 55 inches.

The black value goes down more and more thanks to local dimming. In four of the tested models, it is outside the lower measuring range of the image sensor.
A question of the format
Nowadays, on TV, historically, there are mainly three image formats: 21: 9, 16: 9 and 12: 9 - mathematically abbreviated, 12: 9 gives the old format 4: 3. The fractions describe the aspect ratio from width to height. The almost square format 4: 3 can be seen mainly in the repetition of older TV films, but it is also important in photography.
Position
In the 21: 9 format, many cinema films are now being shot and also reproduced on TV or on Blu-ray. Both 4: 3 and 21: 9 fit but not format-filling into the established television format 16: 9. The result is black bars or distorted images.
Philips has therefore built a TV for film fans, which is optimally adapted to the film format. The 21: 9 TV magnifies CinemaScope movies. For this, the viewer has to some extent considerable losses in the reproduction of ordinary TV-cost in the purchase. From the large 58-inch picture, the picture of a 46-inch TV remains only at a 4: 3 broadcast.
In the lower price segment, the Sharp is particularly enthusiastic. His image is clear and largely free of artifacts. 3D fans get the right image supplier with the LG - but with a dash in the movement presentation. In the middle, the Sony is clearly in the lead.
It delivers great results in image and sound and also features many network functions. Samsung and Toshiba delivered a head-to-head race for second place. Personal preferences should be the most important.
The stylized Toshiba has the better 3D image, but does not come with the Internet functions to the variety of the no less chic Samsung. If you do not want to compromise, love movies and reserve budget, the Philips is the first choice. With it the movie evening is really fun.
