Spotify and Rdio provide streaming music for a fixed monthly fee. Playback will start after the click of the Play button, while the rest of the song will be downloaded. The sound quality is no longer a problem. At most, mobile Internet connections are restricted. In our experience, however, the sound is more determined by the quality of headphones, amplifiers, loudspeakers, etc. than by the compression necessary for the transmission.

For music lovers off the Internet connection, both services can permanently store music locally. Without the Internet, however, it is not. Every couple of weeks, both services will check if you are still a paying subscriber. Otherwise, the music will be deleted.
Tip: Take advantage of the free trial period that offers both services to find out if your favorite bands are in the catalog. Particularly in the case of classics, one repeatedly finds surprising gaps, while younger artists rarely close the new medium.
