FritzOS 6.50: That brings the new functions

With FritzOS 6.50 receives the Fritz box a long-awaited update: Since a felt eternity has changed on the static layout of the Fritzbox web interface hardly anything. This was also not necessary, as long as you only from the PC or notebook browser accesses the router. But have you ever tried to change a Fritzbox setting via the browser in the smartphone? It is – to put it mildly – a pain.

Fritzbox user interface automatically adapts to

With the new firmware version FritzOS 6.50, AVM finally offers a web interface, which automatically adapts to the screen size of mobile devices. When you open the Fritzbox interface in the browser of your smartphone, the main menu is automatically hidden in the left pane.

Comfortable home network management

All information and settings, which are displayed side by side in the large PC browser window, appear in a long, very readable list in the smartphone. So you can now also at any time handle smartphone or tablet conveniently to all functions and settings of the AVM router - and do not have to start the notebook or the PC. However, the new user interface offers a few more refinements.

Advanced hotspot functionality

For the first time, you can sort devices in the home network overview by clicking on the column heading (name, connection type, IP address, etc.) in ascending or descending order. This feature is especially appreciated by Poweruser with many network devices.

Smart functions in the home network with DECT

Also very handy: Under Home Network / Network Connections, you can remove all network devices that are no longer required when they are still in the list. In addition, there is the possibility to provide additional AVM devices in the home network directly via the Fritzbox menu with an update.

With FritzOS 6.50, there is now also the possibility for the first time to suppress the automatic ping response. This protection, which is also referred to as stealth mode, can now be activated under Internet / Filter / List.

In order to protect the operator of a private hotspot legally better, the guest access with FritzOS 6.50 now has a so-called "Captive Portal" with a legal instruction. The access to the Internet is only released after the guest has agreed to the browser. Thus, the holder has complied with his obligation.

The Captive Portal can be activated under WLAN / guest access by setting a check mark to allow the user to log in to guest access only after agreeing to the terms of use.

Through the possibility to award tickets for Internet use, AVM extends its already very comfortable child safety. In order to use the tickets, you must set up a temporary access restriction in at least one access profile under Internet / Filters / Access profiles.

Also the possibilities of use of its DECT telephones by AVM with the new Fritzbox firmware significantly appreciates. This allows the mobile control parts to be used to control modern IP door intercom systems. The already integrated in the network door intercom is set up in the Fritzbox menu under telephony as a new device. After successful installation, the door bell tone is forwarded to the desired DECT handset, and the voice connection also runs over the DECT telephone, as is the opening of the door. Even a camera of the door intercom can be forwarded directly to the Fritzfon.

With the Comet DECT radiator controller, Eurotronic, in conjunction with AVM, is finally offering automatic room temperature control. After the connection at the heating body the controller is connected by DECT with the Fritz box, the setup in the AVM router takes place under home network / Smart Home. By creating a group, the controller can also be connected to the temperature sensor in the switch box FritzDECT 200.

Currently, FritzOS 6.50 is only available for the Fritzbox 7490. We expect the next regular update for the 7390, for which a betting version is already available.
