Testieger: The Netatmo Welcome came to the top of the IP Camera Test with the Logitech LogiCircle in 2017.

Watching on the Internet

The next holiday is certain - and with him the queasy feeling of leaving the apartment unattended. The number of burglaries has been rising for years. According to criminal statistics alone 2017 by about ten percent. And not even every fifth burglary is cleared up - often for lack of evidence.

Smart surveillance cameras like the eight models in this test can solve the dilemma. They hold unsolicited visitors to video. However, they are equally well suited for electronic tip-offs: family members who are on the road can participate in the home at home and even chat with the home-goers. It is possible to use a cross-talk function.

The operating principle is the same for all: The cameras are connected at home via WLAN or in the case of the Netgear with their own wireless base to the router. A free app from the manufacturer brings the Videostream to the smartphone. The owner creates a user account with e-mail address and password. As is the case with this data connection, video has also tested AV-Test in cooperation with the Magdeburg Institute.

The live transmission basically costs nothing. Buyers of the D-Link and the Netatmo can also take pictures indefinitely. The camera responds to movement or noise and places its clips on an integrated memory card.

All other test participants upload all videos to a server on the Internet. In this cloud store they are protected from theft. Even if someone takes the camera, you can access the clips via webbrowser or app. However, the storage time is limited to a few hours or days. Anyone wishing to rewind for a long time must complete a paid subscription.
