Leica has been reporting this year as Leica Q and Leica SL as an innovative manufacturer. In the last few years, much has fallen into the “successful” section of the “Small Series from Designer X”, the new cameras are technically absolutely competitive.
For 2017 Leica has announced two other SL lenses: the APO Vario Elmarit SL 2,8-4 / 90-280 mm and the Summilux SL 1.4 / 50 mm Asph. For a complete system, however, this is much too little, so we require at least five additional fixed focal lengths and a SL2 for 2017. If Leica wants to get out of the Nobel niche with the SL, a more favorable variant has to produce, which to the photokina as SL2 for 4,000 Euro could come. This would be a real "amateur" -Leica and thus more meaningful than a second T-model in the APS-C market.
If it were to be a T2 instead of the SL2, we would expect a "techni- cal" variant: less lifestyle, but better handling and more manual operation.
Leica is likely to realize one of our two desirable models, both of which are likely to be too expensive. There is certainly another collector's item from the M series in a limited edition for photokina.
Detailed rumors also revolve around a compact Tough camera from Leica. It is called X U Type 113. If the rumors are correct, this camera should be based on Panasonic technology. As a technical detail, a fixed 1.7 / 35 mm lens is mentioned, it should be waterproof up to 15 m and secure up to 1.22 m.
