Netgear NeoTV 550 tested: Netgear is the only model in the test to test Blu-ray images with menus and also convince with uninterrupted playback of music files. Netgears NeoTV 550 can play ISO images of Blu-ray discs completely – including menu with chapter selection, bonus material etc. This is currently unique for a player of this price class. The initial setup is performed by a wizard, which tests the sound settings and looks for media files in the home network after release.
The playing of full-HD movies worked flawlessly. Music files in MP3 or FLAC format played the device without interfering pause between the songs. Only when playing music over media servers did jumps and misfires occur. Here Netgear urgently needs to improve. On release, NeoTV plays the songs clean. The player outputs all HD audio formats in stereo (Downmix) or passes these (up to 7.1-formats) loss-free to AV receivers (pass-through). The high standby power consumption can be reduced to 0.3 Watt.
