Onkyo LS-B50 review

The Onkyo LS-B50 is not only sound-proof, but also completely equipped and processed very well up to the remote control. But even this unadorned accessory convinces ultimately through a functional design. Functionality marks the entire sound beam: it is suitable for the shelf and the wall mount.

A solid performance

Among the ports, USB sticks out or Bluetooth connectivity. However, there are competitors like the Sony, which already offer HDMI for significantly less money.

For this Onkyo has given trouble in the selection of the drivers. The Soundbar is equipped with four broadband loudspeakers, which are supported by two high-range ring radiators as well as a double bass plus subwoofer with a 16-cm driver. To expand the space impression, the Japanese developers placed two of the broadband chassis at the outer sides of the soundbars, which have a square profile.

The AuraSphere space-sounding process, based on the computational work of a DSP, combined with the special loudspeaker arrangement created the illusion of a large space that extended far beyond the LS-B50. Also stereo recordings had a broad effect with good left-right positioning, and the dynamics convinced. Special effects, which demanded bass, were courageously and implemented cleanly. For this, the Bluetooth playback was somewhat diffuse. While some of the competitors were turning up with wireless streaming, this feature was more like an encore.
