Tip for advanced users: CyberLink PowerDirector 14 Ultimate

The CyberLink PowerDirector, which also claims to be easy to understand even for beginners, goes beyond the functionality of Fastcut. Accordingly, the software offers two completely different surfaces with a complex and a simple editor. There is also a slideshow designer as well as the new express projects.


These are (as the name suggests) intended for the quick creation of a short video. Here you choose the beginning, middle and end part of one of six stencils, transports them into the timeline and can then fill numbered placeholders with their own film cuttings and picture material. You can also change titles or customize animations, the latter of which have been pretty well done.


Complete "cut-offs" helps the storyboard mode in which you can line the video clips and photos together. In addition, you can add glare, effects and background music with it. For fine grinding you switch to Timeline mode, which offers all editing functions of the software. Then, the interface does not look quite as simple - it is nevertheless easy for beginners after a few minutes.

The software offers sophisticated modules, for example for the improvement of Actioncam videos with a lens correction, a video stabilizer as well as white balance and color filters. Color effects such as "Landscape", "70" stripes or "UnderWater" dive the video image into a certain mood or correct the white balance in underwater photography. Alternatively, you can also manually tune it.
