Is a movie in my Netflix flat rate, I find it at Amazon Prime Instant Video or do I have to buy it on iTunes? If you use multiple streaming providers, you quickly lose track of who streams what. Various streaming search engines are trying to solve this problem. They search the offers of the video-on-demand services and reveal where which film and which series is currently legally available.
1. Who streamed it
In the following we present 5 recommended streaming search engines.
2. Just Watch
The name is program: The website "Who streams it," scans 17 streaming providers and checks the availability of films and serials on request. The search results can be conveniently filtered. For example, a provider-based search is possible or a restriction to free or flat rate subscription content.
3. Vodster
For logged-in users, there is the possibility to define their own providers and to be alerted by an alarm function if a desired film or a series is available. Against the background of constantly changing licenses this is an extremely helpful function. You can also see a list of recent titles.

In addition to the website, "Who streams it" also provides its search engine as an app for iOS and Android. Also here, you can be notified directly on the smartphone or tablet of new available content.
The streaming search engine "Just Watch" also wants to give a quick overview of the availability of films and series at different film flat rate providers. As with "Who streams it", there is a profile for each movie with the various possibilities for buying, borrowing and streaming.
Compared to the competitor "Just Watch" is still in the children's shoes. For example, the current date (as of February 23, 2017) does not include any series in the database. Aside from other new features and apps, they are also expected to be added soon.
Vodster has been around since 2013 and is one of the first price comparison portals for video-on-demand content. The search engine currently supports the largest number of providers - including various media counters of the TV stations. The selection can also be limited via filters, whereby a restriction to individual providers is not possible. In contrast to other streaming search engines, Vodster can be searched explicitly for films and series in different languages.
An app does not currently offer Vodster. For this, the offer can be controlled via an API, via which Vodster can also be called via pc-magazin.de
An innovative approach as a streaming search engine is pursued by Swyrl.tv (short for "See what you really like"). The portal, operated by Teleschau agency, appears as a program magazine for the video-on-demand era, offering not only the search results, but also a lot of editorial content - such as film lists from Oskar prizewinners or a weekly video magazine about current film- Highlights.
Compared to the competition, Swyrl can also score points with detailed film criticism. The number of supported vendors is still low, filter features are limited, and apps for iOS and Android are not available.
Streamcatcher presents itself as a further alternative for the streaming search. The website lists movies and series, but offers comparatively few filter possibilities. As a difference to the competition, users can also submit movie criticism and ratings to streamcatcher.de
An app does not yet offer Streamcatcher. Also the available streaming providers are still
4. Swyrl.tv
Not only the market for streaming providers is on expansion. As the above list shows, the corresponding search engines only sprout from the ground. On the US market, the services Ydio, Can I Stream it, Flixfindr and Instantwatcher, which do not allow access to American providers, are bouncing. However, the Netflix-based site, Whats New on Netflix, also offers the latest news for the German-speaking Netflix offer
