Sync services

In addition to the two drop boxes and Live Mesh, there are a few other providers of free synchronization services, often in combination with paid server space for online backup.

Other sync services

One of these services is SugarSync with free five GB of online storage and a whole host of clients for computers and smartphones. SugarSync installs a "magic briefcase" during the installation, where you can store files to synchronize.

In addition, any directories can be selected in the client. In contrast to Live Mesch and DropBox, the client contains a file manager, which also allows access to online directories. This makes SugarSync a very interesting alternative to DropBox.

The also quite popular SpiderOak is not so flexible here: The two GB memory can only be used for predefined directories. In addition, we were able to save data from two computers online, but not synchronize. In addition, SpiderOak lacks the ability to access the data via the Web.

Another player in this area is Caninical with Ubuntu One. The Ubuntu distributor not only provides a client for its own Linux, but also one for Windows. There are also clients for iPhone and Android, but they are charged for US $ 3.99 a month. The special feature of Ubuntu One is the integrated music store.

In the table, we have other providers of sync services with a free basic offer, such as Wuala, ZumoDrive and Synplicity.
