Sandisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD tested

With the Extreme 500, SanDisk is launching a smart, small data storage device, which pulls into the field in order to dispute the space on the storage arsenal of the thinly-squeezed competition – such as a Samsung T1. To anticipate it, the attack on the throne has been successful. At our test facility, we measure sequential data rates of 311 at read and 289 MByte / s when writing – these are peak values for a USB 3.0 SSD.

Conclusion

In a direct comparison with the T1, we see: CPU utilization is at eye level, as is the low temperature development. The slightly better access times of the Samsung T1 can not compensate the discount in the performance. So SanDisk strikes the Samsung T1 clearly. However, the SanDisk has a catch: it is only available with a maximum of 240 GB capacity. This is not enough for many users today. However, SanDisk provides high data security with an AES 128-bit encryption tool.
