Tablets - Restricted

Tablets are certainly more than just a brilliant medium to have and enjoy images and videos everywhere, to be able to get information on the Internet or to react to an e-mail in a flash. Anyone who expects the support of more complex workflows from a tablet, however, usually reaches limits quickly, or at least determines: The software is important.

Application

There may be tasks for which exactly the right, like tailored application in Apple's App Store or in the Android Market finds, possibly still in vain. The virtual keyboard, which is not so accurate, can also be temporarily replaced with a Bluetooth keyboard.

Design and functionality

However, more complex applications are better managed under a Linux or Windows-based system. This is also available for tablets, for example with the Slate 2 from HP, which is primarily aimed at business customers and is in a correspondingly higher price segment. On most popular tablets Google's Android operating system is installed - with a weighty exception: Apple's iPad, the mother of tablets, is still leading.

Connectivity

If you like one of these two worlds and can work on a PC, you only have to find out which tablet is most satisfying for your genuineness. This may already be decided by the design. Not for nothing, the manufacturers of the two most graceful tablets have a dispute over the violation of design rights.

Size

Both the iPad 2 with its unmatched display as well as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which stands out with other points like DLNA compatibility or powerful software like the function-rich Office suite from other tablets, already impress with their look. And almost forget that the flat design interfere with interfaces that make it possible to connect to an HDMI TV or an external hard disk for other, less elegant tablets such as the Lenovo Ideapad K1 or the Toshiba AT 100.

Contrary to the case of Net- or Ultrabooks, a 3G-module almost belongs to the standard - or the model is at least optionally available with or without Internet access. Price differences of up to 200 euros between the two variants make a decision in favor of mobile connectivity. Not infrequently, however, economical purchasers regret their decision: You quickly become accustomed to finding the map, the kino program or a translation in the Internet uncomplicated. If you want to save money, but still want to bring your tablet online, you can also use its data connection via tethering with a suitable smartphone in your pocket.

Although 10-inch tablets represent the more common display size, we would like to encourage anyone who can imagine a 7-inch screen, or the current top-of-the-line list. The HTC Flyer has convinced us both hardwaresided with a contrast-rich and sharp representation in the interior as well as softwareseitig with the thought-out surface HTC Sense. The Scribe technology, which allows you to write notes directly to the capacitive touch screen, is also worth gold. The flyer, for which Markstart with 3G module proudly 700 and without UMTS 500 euro over the Ladentisch migrated, now meanwhile a real bargain: depending on the storage variant the small Surfflunder is already from 322 euro.
