Ultimate Ears UE Roll test
UE Roll from Ultimate Ears in Test: One thing you have to leave the developers of Ultimate Ears near Portland in the north of the US: They have managed to meet the time clown with their Bluetooth speakers more than any other of the countless competitors Optical, haptic, as well as functional. Even with the brand new UE Roll, this is again possible. First of all, the newcomer in the UE family is filling a price gap: after the models boom (200 euros), Megaboom (300 euros) and mini boom (100 euros), one was missing that sounded on the success of the big Megaboom, but in Of a take-away price class appeals to the holiday-makers. With 130 euros, the UE Roll is undoubtedly a real pre-season.
Externally, the portable speaker is made of the same durable plastic as the UE Megaboom. It is watertight and can therefore be used in the shower and tub as well as on the beach. With its four centimeters in height, a diameter of 13.5 centimeters and a weight of more than 300 grams, it is extremely mobile, thanks to the robust, fixed rubber cord - called Bungee Cord - it can be easily attached in many places
But what can the flatter disk disc? The Bluetooth connection with our test device iPhone 6 is manufactured after the first pairing lightning fast and as stable as the model Megaboom. The advantage: Like the big brother, two devices can be connected simultaneously.

The volume can be controlled via the control unit, or via the chic, plus and minus buttons integrated into the design. Speaking of design: The UE Roll is available in six different colors that carry such great names as Volcano, Reef, Sugar Plum and Pinata.
But back to the technology: The UE Roll tends strongly to its big brother - without it however completely the water can be enough. To be sure, the form and size do not come first. But 360-degree sound is also promised here, but only held if the speaker flat on the back. Then, however, it unfolds a volume that trumps with clear heights and delivers more wumms even in the bass than the sound disk at first glance. Ultimate Ears, the hip daughter of the accessory giant Logitech, promises further improvements via firmware update. The free UE Roll app for the control was not yet available at the time of testing.
Conclusion: The UE Roll stands for the desire for indifference and coolness in summer. This speaker makes you want to have fun on the beach and also because, thanks to an extremely long battery life, it delivers the personal soundtrack. This was also proved by our test at wakeboarding and at the bathing lake. Who wants Megasound wants, needs also Megaboom. But with the UE Roll you can still start with every spontaneous party impressive background. And the price / performance ratio is right.
