In Word, a distinction is made between document templates and format templates. Document templates are the top concept. A document template can contain several format templates. In addition, the document template can already contain text. All documents refer to the “Normal.dotm” template.
Step 1: Define the desired document template
The file ending is not, as you might have expected, "dotx". This is because macros can also be stored in Word's default template. Therefore the "m" as an extension. As soon as you create a template, it refers to the normal template. All format templates that you do not explicitly define in the new document template are taken from the "Normal.dotm"

Step 3: Create a new style sheet for a font
Before you create content for your template, you should take care of the basic formats. Word has the following format template types
Step 4: Standard paragraphs for a clear structure
To create a new document template, create a new document first. To do this, click on the "File" tab and then on the "New" command. In the "Available Templates", select the "Empty Document" icon. Then, in the right pane, click "Create." You save this document as a template. To do this, click on the "File" tab. In the window that appears, select Save and Send.
Then click on the "Change file type" icon and select the "Template" file type. With a mouse click on the "Save As" icon, the dialog window of the same name is displayed. In this dialog box, select the desired file path and, for example, enter the file name "TemplateBlanko". From now on, you can work with the document template and customize it to fit your needs.
For all your documents to have a uniform font, follow these steps:
Select the "Start" tab. Click the small arrow at the bottom right of the Font group. The Font dialog box is displayed. For example, select: Font: "Arial", Font: "Standard", Size: "12".
Then click the "Set as default" button. Now comes the query whether these settings should only be applied to the current document or to all documents based on the template "TemplateBlanko". Select the option box for the template, and then click the "OK" button.
In addition to the standard font, you can create your own fonts. This would, for example, offer a company name. To create a style sheet for a
font
To set the default paragraphs, click the arrow at the lower right end of the group on the Start tab in the Paragraph group. In the "Paragraph" dialog box, make the necessary settings for your template. As a "distance after" the entry "6Pt." at. This makes the contents of the paragraphs not so squat.
To further improve readability, the "Multiple" and "1.15" settings are recommended at line spacing. If your settings are complete, click the Set as default button. In the Next window, select the check box "All documents based on the template templateBlanko.dotx" and confirm by clicking "OK". This takes your settings for the desired layout of the sales structure into the template.
For extensive documents, it is worthwhile to create a self-defined heading. For this purpose, you should create a few headings in your template and then save them in your own header templates. It is often enough to work up to level three. If you need deeper structures, create them if necessary. In your Blankovorlage, type "Heading 1", then click the "Heading 1" style sheet in the "Formats" area.
Step 5: Create and Save Headlines
Then, right-click the header. In the context menu, drag the cursor to "Format templates" and click on the "Save selection as new quick format template" command in the submenu. In the Name box, type the name "Company heading 1" for this template. Then click on the "Change" button. The "Create new formatting formatting" dialog box is displayed.
As "Format template type", select "Linked (paragraph and character)". In the "Format template for the following paragraph" drop-down menu, select "Standard". Then set the formatting for the header. To automatically number the headings, click the Format button at the bottom of the dialog box. Then select "Numbering" and the appropriate numbering.
Step 6: Headers and footers in the same design
Then click the "OK" button. Put a check mark in the "Add to list of fast-format templates" check box. Also check the "New documents based on this template" check box. Click the "OK" button. For more headings, use the same method.
The format templates for the blank page are created. Now it's up to the content. Here, a uniform layout of the headers and footers is important. To create a header, select the Insert tab. Then, click the "Header" icon in the "Headers and Footers" group. In the submenu that is now displayed, click on the "Edit header" command. Then the cursor is in the header.
The company name should appear at the top left of the header. This is to be displayed in the font "Firmenschrift". To do this, click the Start tab, and then click the Company Name label in the Format Templates group, and then type the name, for example, My Company. Then, click the "Design" tab in the "Headers and Footers Tools" (the rightmost tab).
Click the "Switch to the Footer" icon in the "Navigation" group and edit it appropriately. Clicking on the "Close Header and Footer" icon returns you to your template. Save it again when finished.
