The best 40-inch TVs under 1,000 euros

With a diagonal of just under a meter, 40-inch TVs just fit into a cabinet wall. That is why they continue to enjoy great popularity. Also the optimal viewing distance of about one and a half to two meters can be arranged well with most living rooms. Through tests and price comparisons, we have found the best 40-inch models, which are also affordable. However, a 39-inch model has also smuggled into the list. Finally, the size classes in this segment begin to blur, faced with 80-inch giant TVs.

The test field

Overall, the Philips 40PFL5507K and the Sony KDL-40HX755 clearly lead the test field in terms of picture quality. The Philips saves the top position thanks to its balanced overall impression with consistently very good results in all categories. Only just behind it in second place are equal to two devices on the same point. The two remaining candidates are much further away, the last placed Hisense 39K610 is almost a hundred points behind the winner. In terms of sound quality, it still comes close to the top spot.

In the laboratory and in the test room each TV set has to carry out a large number of measurements and practice tests. The assessments of the testers are fed by the measurement results. In this way, we can assess characteristics such as image and sound quality as well as processing and operation as objectively as possible. As we test the TVs since 2010, you can find in the guide how we test TVs to read - essentially nothing has changed.
