Philips Soundbar with detachable surround speakers

At first sight, the sound bar acts as you know such TV speakers. Transverse, with an additional subwoofer, they offer either stereo or virtual surround TV sound. The HTL 9100 version of the Philips Fidelio range, however, turns out to be a surprise package.

Refined, the ends left and right consist of divided loudspeaker boxes, which can be removed quickly. As completely separate loudspeakers, they can then be positioned behind the TV guitars and thus ensure real 5.1 surround. And this is completely wireless. The loudspeakers have accumulators as current sources and are in contact with the base unit by radio. This functions as a front and center loudspeaker in the shortened form. When the two speakers are docked again, they recharge themselves automatically, making themselves ready for the next "real surround" application. If you do not want to listen to the stereo and virtual surround entirely without the need for a multi-channel sound.

Buying advice: The best soundbars

In order not to cloud the cordless pleasure, the stripping also falls elsewhere. Thus, the subwoofer also connects to the base by radio. Bluetooth mobile devices can also dock to it wirelessly and play music. TVs and Blu-ray players, two HDMI jacks are available. Aux, coaxial and optical digital audio as well as a clinker input are available as further connections.

Finally, the built-in orientation sensor is to ensure the best possible sound performance. It automatically detects whether the soundbar is placed flat - for example on the TV rack - or erected - that would be hung on the wall of the case. The electronics then optimize the sound settings accordingly. The speakers have a total output of 120 watts, the subwoofer creates 90 watts.

The HTL 9100 is 103.5 centimeters wide with docked speakers and weighs 4 kilos. It costs 800 euros.
