With the Sony A7 and Sony A7R Sony wants to combine the characteristics of classic SLR cameras with the advantages of modern mirrorless system cameras. The two new Sony Alpha models use new full-format sensors. The Alpha 7 is equipped with a 35.8 x 23.9 mm Exmor sensor with 24 megapixel resolution. The 35.9 x 24 mm Exmor CMOS sensor of the Alpha 7R offers 36 megapixels and is trimmed to the highest imaging performance.
