Unchanged in the Leica S remains the resolution of 37.5 megapixels and the 30x45mm format of the CCD sensor. The sensor and the image processor should now work faster and improve noise, provide more natural color reproduction, and more accurate white balance.
Improved autofocus
In the new "Graukarten" -mode this can be included once and then serve as a reference for all subsequent photos. The sensitivity range of the S sensor ranges from ISO 100-1,600. The buffered capacity of the buffer memory and data transfer rates of 166 MB / s, which can be doubled to 2 GB, allows the recording of up to 32 photos in RAW-DNG format and resolution. JPEG recordings can be recorded indefinitely and optionally stored at 37.5, 9.3 and 2.3 megapixels parallel to DNG recordings.
More comfort
The revised AF module with pre-computed autofocus is designed to track the sharpness of moving subjects safely and quickly. The new two-axis water balance in the viewfinder helps with camera alignment. An integrated GPS module of the Leica S2 can now write the coordinates of the current location and exact recording time into the Exif data of the photos. This information can be used with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 software.
More S lenses
The 3-inch LCD monitor with a Cornings Gorilla Glass cover provides 306,666 RGB pixel resolution and sRGB color gamut. The Prismensucher image shows 98 percent at a magnification of 0.87x and more. The camera was redesigned. A joystick at the back of the camera allows for quick menu navigation.
A softer case rubber provides better grip. The so-called LEMO flash synchronous connection promises greater safety when controlling stud-slot systems. The Leica S corresponds in most other functions and possibilities of the S2, so also with the lens selection with and without central locking. The energy consumption of the S2 should be about less.
At Leica S, Leica Camera AG will also refrain from the figure in the product name. The new Leica S will be delivered with the Leica Protection Plan from December at the price of EUR 19,500. This gives the photographer an extended 3-year warranty and, if necessary, a replacement camera for bridging the repair times
In addition to the Kamerabody, Leica brings three new lenses for the S-System. This is the super wide angle Leica Super-Elmar-S 1: 3.5 / 24 mm Asph. (19 mm KB) for 6,500 euros, the standard zoom Leica Vario-Elmar-S 1: 3,5-5,6 / 30-90 mm Asph (24-72 mm KB) for 9,000 euros, and the Tilt / Shift Lens Leica TS-APO-Elmar-S 1: 5.6 / 120 mm (96 mm KB) for 6,000 euros.
The Leica Elpro-S 180 for 1,000 Euros is a pre-cut lens specifically designed for the Leica APO-Elmar-S 1: 3.5 / 180 mm. It reduces the near-limit to 1.1 meters for a maximum imaging scale of 1: 4.5.
