It was hot at this high summer weekend in Berlin. Also in Springer’s editorial rooms. There was probably the “tech-freak” of the publishing house and invented the “BILD am SONNTAG” a fat, powerful headline: “Why you should not buy a TV this year”. Rather, he warned the large readership (the article also appeared here on BILD.de): “Do not buy a TV this year – because no matter what model you buy, it will be the wrong one.” This smells of an urgent contradiction!
What brought the Berlin scene connoisseur of BILD to this crass statement?
It was our body and magenthema, the new image technology 4K and Ultra-HD! This is now being presented successively and, according to his argumentation, the old-fashioned full-HD technology look old. Oh bravo Are thus ten million a year sold TV suddenly all scrap? Are the new smart TVs that are now available in stores, or are offered in onlineshops, already yesterday's technology?
Video clearly means: NO! Not at all! Rather, the generation of smart TVs is the best TV generation ever: the possibilities of classic television have never been more exciting, the features are more comprehensive and more user friendly.
If one were to follow the argument from Berlin, one would no longer be able to buy any technology at all. Fast life and shortening of the life cycles are now almost all categories of consumer electronics.
Our recommendation: Buy a TV now!
In one point, however, the image-accustomed tech freak is right: Ultra-HD is another, great quality jump compared to Full-HD. Not only that is why video is currently showing output for output and online how fascinating the ultramoad-looking TV future will look. But UHD is still not a mass market for a long time, especially since there is hardly any content in the new picture quality. And not to forget: A few million households in the United States have not even moved from the good old "tube" to a flat-screen TV. Many new technologies are so fast that consumers are hard to follow.
Our verdict is therefore: Please, consider! Get the noble new smart TVs! Enjoy full-HD or 3D image quality, use the network connection for TV fun with media library, video-on-demand, YouTube and Skype, or share your movies and photos with your tablet or smartphone! >
