Windows 10 Problems: USB devices and updates

Many users report updates of non-functional USB devices. There is an error message in the information center: The device USB \ VID _….. could not be migrated. Then you should first remove the device and restart Windows 10. Do not connect the device to the USB port until the boot process is complete. If it is an extension with its own power supply, separate it from the mains before. Also try connecting to another port.

If this does not help, open the system control and start the device manager. Check the USB devices for errors and reinstall the drivers. In any case, go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest driver version for the operating system you are using.

Tip: If a USB keyboard or mouse is used in combination with a HUB, there are often problems after an update. Then connect the keyboard and mouse directly to the computer. Then check the drivers for the USB hub and port you are using.


If programs or drivers do not work properly after a Windows update, an Internet search often helps to narrow down the problem. The solution is often to remove a special update from Windows. This works with Windows 10 as with 7 and 8: Start the system control and go to Programs / Programs and Features / Installed Updates. Click on the corresponding entry with the right mouse button and select Uninstall from the context menu.
