The Aurvana ANC headphone is convenient to carry. It is quite light and the ear cushions are comfortable.
Creative Aurvana ANC: processing, wearing comfort and noise reduction
The company Creative has been known to many users for years by their audio products. These include the legendary "Sound Blaster" sound cards, as well as MP3 players (ZEN), webcams or loudspeakers. Under the label "Aurvana" Creative offers high-quality headphones. This includes the Creative Aurvana ANC, whose suggested retail price is 129.99 euros.
Creative Aurvana ANC: isolation and sound
In terms of design, the Aurvana ANC listeners look conservative. The headband and the earpads are matte black and the shells are decorated with a dark-colored Farbring. The light-metallic shining covers of the ear cups are the only optical eye-catcher, but they are quite easily mistaken with fingerprints. Alternate color variants are currently not available.
Creative Aurvana ANC: Conclusion
The top of the adjustable strap is thinly padded with a leather imitation. A bit more padding at this point would not have hurt. The stability of the narrow metal-reinforced strap is neat. The ear cups can be rotated by 90 degrees for better transport. Compact, the Aurvana ANC can not be folded. With just under 180 grams, the headphone is very light. The padding of the ear cups is quite pleasant, they surround the ears, if these do not fall too large. Prolonged wear was no problem at our Praxistest.
The headphones are connected via a detachable, fabric-covered jack plug cable. The advantage of this option is that you do not have to discard the headphones in the event of a cable break. However, Creative has also integrated the microphone into the cable.
For the safe transport, Creative delivers a small "travel bag". This also includes an adapter for the typical 2-fold 3.5mm monocable of older aircraft seats.
Especially in the aircraft, but also as a passenger in public transport, the active noise canceling (ANC) should pay off, so our hope. To do this, you put an AAA battery in the left earpiece. According to the Creative, 40 hours of sound reproduction with noise suppression enabled. ANC provides a slight noise when activated via a mechanical switch on the auricle, if no sound is heard and no music is played.
Lesetipp: Headset for smartphones and tablets
For a practice test we used public transport in Munich and listened extensively to our favorite songs and videos. Our practical conclusion: The noise suppression should be activated in any case. Without ANC, the sound is a bit dull. Those who are hoping for an undisturbed musical enjoyment from the noise suppression will soon be disappointed. Despite ANC (and closed construction of the headphones) the insulation is insufficient. Normal speaking riders, as well as the ambient noise are filtered out only a little. No comparison to our current "reference headphone" Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless. This is the creative Aurvana ANC in all respects superior, be it the sound, the wear comfort and above all in terms of noise suppression. However, the Bose-Lauscher cost three times as much.
The noise reduction to the outside also did not convince the Aurvana ANC and made traveling passengers to unwanted listeners.
The Creative Aurvana ANC is light and comfortable to wear. Audiophile expectations should not be brought - really bad the headphones but not. We expected much more from the noise suppression function: thus undisturbed music enjoyment is not possible. The price of Creative Aurvana ANC is too high.
