New Blizzard release: online shooter Overwatch announced

Blizzard has announced the multiplayer shooter Overwatch as part of the Blizzcon trade fair, and has shown it to the public for the first time. The Beta phase is scheduled to start in early 2017, and the beta registration will take place on the official Overwatch site.

Overwatch Cinematic Trailer

The setting of Overwatch is in a far advanced future vision of the earth. Graphically, the game is based on a comic-like style and thus parallels the popular Team Fortress 2 of Valve. The following is the official trailer.

Playfully Overwatch divides the more than a dozen characters into four classes. Available for the game veterans are self-explanatory classes of offense, defense, tank and support. Some of the playable characters have been featured in the official trailer.

Overwatch Gameplay Trailer

The heroes all carry unique abilities and weapons, which should open up a lot of space for tactical finesse. Blizzard has not said anything about the system requirements for Overwatch, but they are expected to be low, so as to be as broad as possible.

As usual for Blizzard, Overwatch is also an easy-to-learn but difficult to master gameplay. In six-player teams, the players then enter the new FPS genre (first person shooter) for the studio. The possible venues will offer a lot of variety, ranging from the hologram-lit streets of London to Egyptian high-tech pyramids. The following video gives a first impression of the gameplay.
