FIFA 17 test: New graphics, new game?

FIFA 17 is the next part of the most successful football simulation ever. And if FIFA 16 was really strong, FIFA 17 sets the crown up. With new graphics, new game modes and lots of improvements. We have tested the PES 2017 competitor.

FIFA 17 test: The gameplay

Quiet blood, you would have always called times. Because FIFA was always one thing: Clever! Something too nimble, maybe. This improves with FIFA 17. The producers have taken some speed out of the game and thus ensure a very homogeneous game flow. Hard and long passes, tremendous sprints and ball attacks are so much better. Gone are the days when you just needed a quick thumb to play great games.

This is also helped by the improved shielding. At a real defenses like Sokratis (BVB) one can only get a lot of trouble when he tries to claim the ball. Even powerful strikers like Lewandowski (FC Bayern) profit by storm.

FIFA 17 in the test: Conclusion

Also new is the standard control, which promises more control and indeed also offers. At corners, we determine, for example, with a crosshair where the ball is to go. Depending on how long we hold the corresponding button, the ball then flies high or low, hard or lash into it. Like that. In throws, we can now walk a few meters to the left or right to get more tactical finesse, and when shooting a penalty, we move an arrow and then determine the shot strength. This is more precise, but also much more difficult than before. It's a pity: the game is lost in the offline game - an advantage for the goalkeeper.

Known from NBA 2k17, EA is now also on a small roller-play trip. And he succeeded immediately! We accompany the kicker Alex Hunter from his earliest years on the football field to the big fire in the Premiere League - and much more. In doing so, we have to complete trainings, give interviews, make friends with the team colleagues and, of course, do a lot of games. Of course we are not always in the starting line, but we have to get a place in it, impress the coach and perform various tasks (shooting gates, play templates, turn the game). Of course the route of Alex Hunter is predetermined, the campaign is highly linear. And so Alex will definitely be a star. This does not matter, because it is fun to accompany him. And with The Journey, EA definitely has a great iron in the fire, which is guaranteed over the next few years. Toll.

We were wondering what the Battlefield 1 graphics engine Frostbite can do in FIFA 17. And what shall we say? It has been possible. The staging is great, the players look great - as great as in PES 2017 the graphics are not. Here, Konami now has the nose ahead, thanks to incredibly good illumination and lighting. For this, EA thanks to numerous licenses again creates a grandiose atmosphere. This has been improved again, because now the trainers of the Premiere League look as in reality - for example, Jürgen Klopp, who is the Liverpool coach. The two commentators Wolfffuss and Frank Buschmann have also been given a few new comments and are no longer as bored as they were in previous FIFA releases.

FIFA 17 has become a really great game, with many new features and various improvements. We especially like the story mode "The Journey". In terms of graphics, FIFA 17 this year, however - despite Frostbite engine - is the shortest compared to PES 2017.
